SUMMARY
This position is responsible for technical and commercial coordination of product segment design and development activities.

Leads aircraft component / system certification projects by coordinating internal groups and outside customers / suppliers to ensure well planned, efficient and timely aircraft component / systems implementation, development, and FAA certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Certification Engineer researches, plans, and executes the FAA certification process; identifies all required actions, documents, drawing lists, substantiations, tests, reports, compliance checklists, conformity inspection requests, and formal data transmittals to regulatory agencies; and prepares and submits certification plans to the FAA.

This position provides the necessary program coordination for product development activities from inception through to contract completion including proposal, product definition, design, development, customer reviews, testing and initial deliveries.
The Program Manager is the primary technical customer contact and is responsible for assuring that cost, schedule and contractual obligations are satisfied while preserving the interests of Goodrich Corporation and Lighting Systems.

The Certification Engineer's authorities include submittal of responses to customers' inquiries and requests, creation of schedules, coordination of costing efforts, negotiation of contractual issues and oversight of design and development activities to minimize program risk and assure that contractual obligations are met. The program manager has the authority to assign tasks to engineering disciplines as required and request similar support from other company departments as appropriate.

Interfaces with customers on RFI, RFQ, and technical information request proposals.

Collects cost data on raw materials, estimates projected labor hours for quoted assemblies.

Composes qualification schedules for new products in the segment, coordinates development of test fixturing, obtains quotations from various test companies to support schedule.

Establishes program schedules based on available resources, material, and testing lead times.

Establishes NRC and recurring cost targets for potential new programs.

Submits financial models as required by internal procedures to demonstrate payback and profitability on new programs.

Acts as a customer liaison during the development phase of new programs.

Supports on site technical visits to the customer to develop concepts and ideas for various layouts and routing.

New business development visits or projects for new and existing customers.

Assures that non-disclosure agreements and other legal documents are signed by authorized persons with key suppliers and/or customers when required to protect the interests of the Goodrich Corporation.

Responsible for smooth transition of products into the manufacturing segment of the business.

Utilizes design for Six Sigma techniques to ensure manufacturability of products and cost containment.

Ensures engineering review and approval of all design concepts.

Completes all customer data requests in support of existing contracts.

Reviews cost data on existing programs to ensure financial health of the business segment.

Other duties as assigned.

Communicates environmental concerns to supervisor or manager, participates in scheduled training classes, complies with the guidance or approved procedures provided to them, and provides feedback to improve the effectiveness of the Environmental Management System

3-5 years experience in program management or technical leadership role. Knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to Aircraft Lighting Systems certification efforts and working knowledge of the FAA STC, TSO, PMA process. FAA System and Equipment DER (electrical) authorization is preferred
