About Naiad Technologies

Naiad Technologies is developing Cyrene, an eco-friendly and cost-effective device that treats harmful algal blooms at their source: phosphate nutrient pollution. We are pre-revenue and closing our pre-seed round with a lead investor committed. We are hiring our first full-time engineer to own the technical development of the product.

The Role

As our Founding Engineer, you will own the design and development of Cyrene's phosphorus-extraction filtration system and the buoy that houses it. The work spans dry-lab calculation, wet-lab method development, CAD design, and physical prototyping, and runs from ideation to a product ready for pilot deployment by April 2027. You will work directly with the CEO and Scientific Advisor to set technical strategy and build the development pipeline.

This is a founding-level role. You will carry the core technical risk of the company and have real ownership over how the product gets built. Success in year one means a working, tested prototype that removes dissolved phosphorus from freshwater under natural conditions and a clear path to pilot deployment.

Responsibilities

Design the filtration system and buoy architecture
Build and test prototypes that remove dissolved phosphorus from freshwater lakes under natural conditions
Deliver a pilot-ready product by April 2027
Set technical strategy and the development pipeline alongside the CEO and Scientific Advisor
Lay the groundwork to scale toward commercial production by 2029

What We're Looking For

Required

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, biochemical engineering, or a closely related field. Advanced degrees a plus.
Fluent in CAD
Hands-on experience turning biological, chemical, or biochemical materials into a working device or composite product
Self-directed and comfortable owning open-ended problems from start to finish

Strongly Preferred

Track record of shipping projects on time and within tight budgets
Clear communicator who addresses conflict directly
Ready to take real accountability and commit to an early-stage startup

Compensation and Equity

This is a founding-level role and the compensation reflects an early-stage company. We offer meaningful equity, in the range of 10-20%, as the primary form of compensation. Cash compensation during the pre-revenue stage is limited to roughly $50K and is open to negotiation, with the expectation that salary increases when we reach revenue or close our next round.

We would rather be direct than oversell this. You are taking startup risk in exchange for ownership and the chance to build the core product from the ground up.

Location and Lab Access

Protecting Naiad's intellectual property is a priority. The role can be fully remote with lab access that Naiad Technologies helps arrange, with relocation to Boston Innoventure Labs preferred.
