Full Job Description

Non-profit victim services agency is seeking qualified and compassionate Court Advocates to provide trauma-informed support, legal information, and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence in Nassau County.

Under the supervision of the Lead Advocate, the Bilingual Court Advocate plays a critical role in supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking as they navigate the legal system. This position requires a compassionate, organized, and resourceful professional who can provide trauma-informed advocacy and empower clients through the court process.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct support to survivors by offering information about their legal rights, court proceedings, and available options.
Assist clients in preparing and filing petitions for Orders of Protection, child custody, and child support in Nassau County Family Court.
Refer clients to pro bono legal services and coordinate with contracted attorneys
Offer emotional support and safety planning tailored to each client’s needs.
Serve as a liaison between survivors and legal professionals, court personnel, and community agencies.
Conduct outreach to raise awareness of available services and promote safety and justice for survivors.
Represent the organization at community events and participate in educational workshops and trainings.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records; complete required documentation and statistical reports in a timely manner.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated care and service delivery.

Qualifications:

Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
Bachelor's degree in human-services related field
Valid NYS driver's license
Prior experience in advocacy, social services, legal services, or related field preferred.
Knowledge of issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma.
Familiarity with the Family Court system is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
Commitment to survivor-centered practices.
