Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
The Community Warehouse Project of Chester County, (CWP) has engaged the services of Diversified Services LLC, (Bob Madonna) on a search for an Executive Director (“ED”) to lead a thriving, community-centric, and collaborative nonprofit headquartered in West Chester, PA.
Mission
The Community Warehouse Project of Chester County is a service organization that collects and redistributes donated furniture and other household items to individuals and families in need within the region.
It is generally a one-time, free service to pre-screened recipients, supported through the generosity of those within our community.
The Community Warehouse Project depends on people from the local community to volunteer, provide donations, including furniture, household goods and funds. They also work with local social service agencies to identify people in need and distribute the furniture to them. Their goal is that every family and individual suffering from poverty or other hardships can live in a furnished home.
Leadership Opportunity
The ED will bring a record of bold and proven leadership to effectively deliver an inspiring mission: to improve the quality of life in our surrounding community through effective programs and dedicated staff.The ED is responsible for articulating CWP’s mission internally and externally; managing staff; collaborating with CWP’s Board of Directors; identifying, prioritizing, and executing on goals; maintaining and building an expansive network of partners and collaborators; stewarding federal, state, and local funding streams; raising private funds from the community; and setting local and regional agendas for thought leadership, public policy, and advocacy.
The ED reports to the Board of Directors, comprised of influential community and civic leaders. The Board fulfills its fiduciary responsibilities through regular Board meetings, committee participation, and resource development efforts. The ED leads a staff of2 employees, (1 full time and 1 part time), and various contractors.
The ED’s key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Community-Centered Leadership
- In partnership with the staff and Board, the ED will prepare and present an annual operating budget, set annual targets, monitor and refine business model and set and report om measurable key performance indicators, (KPIs).
· Maintain the mission as a financially self-sustaining organization, responsibly grow by identifying new opportunities and partnerships and consistently adapt to changing conditions.
Raise Organizational Profile and Resources
- In partnership with the staff and Board, represent and promote CWP’s mission, programs, and outcomes to media outlets, partners, policymakers, and sponsors.
· Develop and maintain good working relationships with all key constituencies including but not limited to banks, public funders, private donors, charities, other nonprofits, and other funding sources, federal, state, and municipal government leaders and elected officials.
· Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors across diverse segments, including individuals, corporations, foundations and government sources.
· Develop and implement a comprehensive revenue plan, including public sector and private sector grants, corporate and individual gifts, and other sources. Maintain and cultivate a database of donors/grantors. Oversee appropriate uses of all grant revenues and prepare/submit grantor reports as required.
· Plan and oversee fundraising events and campaigns.
Implement Long-Term Infrastructure Strategies
- Ensure operations prioritize efficiency, safety, and compliance. Follow legal and regulatory guidance for government contracts, advance progressive human resource functions, safeguard facilities management practices, and invest in information technology systems and training that help CWP and its staff operate at high levels.
· In collaboration with the Board Treasurer, manage relationships with external auditor to ensure proper internal controls over financial reporting and compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements.
· In partnership with the staff and Board, conduct regular review of key performance indicators that track costs, progress, and intended outcomes towards long-term goals, while directing course corrections as needed.
· Provide continuous improvement to CWP’s systems and practices through ongoing assessment and optimization of CWP’s IT, equipment, systems, and practice standards.

Experiences, Skills, and Qualities
The Board is seeking a skilled executive who brings a record of successful senior leadership experiences to this role. We recognize that the most competitive applicants will have many, but likely not all, of the following personal and professional experiences, skills, and qualities:
- 3+ years in senior leadership roles in one or more nonprofit, government agency, or similarly complex entities
- Prefer a candidate that resides in Chester County, either currently or in the past.
- Strong ties to or familiarity with the Chester County nonprofits and philanthropic community.
- Earned degree from an accredited university in Public Administration, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent.
- Solid strategic thinker who will focus on the big picture and will also engage with staff and clients on program issues.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills that foster effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals. Is equally comfortable working with elected and public officials and business leaders as well as residents and community organizers.
- Thorough understanding of financial management and finance-related performance metrics.
- Thorough, organized and detail oriented; able to prioritize work and organize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- A successful record implementing strategy and setting goal frameworks, action-oriented budgets, and outcome measurements.
- Accomplished with executive fundraising efforts, including strategizing, and securing support through partnerships, institutions, corporations, and/or individuals.
- Prior experience managing or serving on a nonprofit board.
- Understanding of nonprofit governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and effective communication between board and leadership.
- Ability to cultivate a positive work culture where staff feel supported and valued.
· Motivated to participate in personal and professional development based on self-reflection and the integration of performance assessment and constructive feedback with a commitment to industry standard leadership growth and development.
- Knowledge of software platforms including but not limited to software such as Microsoft 365, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS, and Outlook), QuickBooks and donor/fundraising management databases.

The Community Warehouse Project of Chester County is headquartered at 800 East Virginia Avenue, West Chester, PA 19380.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual Salary: $75,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience
Job Type: Full-time, primarily remote
· Benefits: Health insurance negotiable
· Threeweeks paid vacation after four months in the position.
· 10 paid company holidays along with the week between Christmas and New Years and Fourth of July week.
