The Frontier Energy Food Service Technology Center (FSTC) is an unbiased resource for information on the energy and performance of commercial and residential foodservice appliances. It is the policy and commitment of the Frontier Energy’s Food Service Technology Center (FSTC) to appropriately structure and manage activities in a manner that protects and preserve impartiality. Duties may require publication research, procedure development and application, data analysis, statistical error analysis, research report writing and presentation of results. Additional responsibilities include assembling test apparatus, specifying and troubleshooting instrumentation, designing, and conducting experiments and describing process and analysis of results.
Core Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer provides analytical results from laboratory, field, or investigations based on a solid background in engineering physics and years of experience in their field. The Engineer I is responsible for supporting multiple research projects under supervision from senior staff. Required to prepare technical reports documenting test conditions and results and be willing to present oral presentations on research findings to project stakeholders and other relevant groups. The Engineer I will be responsible for analysis efforts for multiple projects under supervision from senior staff. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Install and troubleshoot test apparatus and instrumentation.
- Setup, maintenance, cleanup, and decommissioning of test apparatus.
- Conduct site assessments for data collection purposes.
- Document, track, and maintain relevant equipment, instrument, and test records.
- Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations summarizing test results.
- Manage activities from multiple projects in various stages of completion simultaneously.
- Communicate clearly with customers and team members.
- Assist with equipment shipping, receiving and installation.
- Interface with visitors and tours as assigned.
- Follow all health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program is required. No relevant work experience necessary.
- Must have an appropriate level of knowledge of engineering physics, statistics, and experimental design, pass all required safety training and follow all safety guidelines.
- Must be willing and able to contribute in a team environment, while also possessing the capability to perform work independently when necessary.
- Willing to develop skills outside existing experience.
- Does not require regular direct supervision.
- Must be able to participate in work events during non-business hours as required.
- The ability to lift more than 50 lbs is required.
Skills/Experience
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, quantitative data analysis, and presentation computer applications.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts.
- Ability to operate independently and in cross-functional teams in consulting and rapid growth-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with statistical theory.
- Experience in the food service industry a plus.
