Full Job Description

POSITION TITLE: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II

REPORTS TO: MAINTENANCE MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY: Diagnose and troubleshoot machines and equipment with inadequate operation and make adjustments or repairs to achieve proper operation.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions:

I. Complete work orders given by production supervisors on a timely basis.

II. Examine and troubleshoot machines or equipment to detect malfunctions.

III. Communicate machine malfunctions, maintenance needs to manager and production supervisor.

IV. Repair, replace and adjust faulty mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components of machines and equipment.

V. Dismantle injection molding, assembly and filling/packaging machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts and conduct post-repair tests and evaluations, following specifications and blueprints, using precision measuring instruments and hand tools.

VI. Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

VII. Fabricate guards, brackets and supports for machinery using basic machine shop tools such as lathe, milling machine, bending break, drill press, cutting shear, and welding equipment.

VIII. Install electrical equipment in accordance with NEC, such as transformers, controllers, circuit breakers, and motors.

IX. Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) on machines and equipment following PM schedule.

X. Create/monitor and/or adjust high speed machine vision inspection camera programs.

XI. Identify workplace safety concerns with recommendations to management.

XII. Possess a working knowledge of H.A.C.C.P procedures and applications, supporting Safe Quality (SQF) Food requirements. Training will be provided.

XIII. Possess knowledge and comply with SQF procedures, as appropriate.

XIV. Maintain cleanliness and safety of tools, machines and work area; comply with all cleanliness rules, including those associated with FDA and SQF standards.

XV. Complete all work activities in compliance with all applicable SQF food standards, requirements and guidelines.

Marginal Functions:

Receive and give training to other employees in equipment and procedures.

Monitor and maintain working stocks of maintenance materials, tools, supplies and equipment.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

I. Standing, walking, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing, grasping, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing.

II. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more with peripheral vision and the ability to bring objects into sharp focus to judge distance and space relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.

III. Medium work - exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 35 to 45 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Employee exposed to seasonal temperatures sufficiently low or high to cause marked bodily discomfort; atmospheric conditions that affect respiratory system or the skin such as fumes and odors but not to the point of being disagreeable; sufficient noise to require hearing protection; hazards such as working on scaffolding and high places, moving mechanical parts, and electrical current; oils and other cutting fluids with exposure strong enough to be disagreeable.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Equivalent to a high school diploma

Formal training in a technical field with certification of completion or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

Minimum of 4 years of hands on maintenance experience in a similar setting.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

I. Ability to apply principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

II. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

III. Ability to use basic math with complicated drawings, blueprints and schematics.

IV. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

V. Ability to provide details with work and observations

VI. Ability to apply concepts of calculus, algebra and statistics including: analytic geometry, linear and quadratic equations, frequency distributions, reliability and validity of tests, normal curve, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

VII. Ability to read safety rules and instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment.

VIII. Ability to write with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.

IX. Ability to speak with poise, voice control, and confidence, using correct English and well modulated voice.

X. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Hand Tools, Power Tools, Precision Measuring Tools, Gauges, Meters, Production Machines, Milling Machine, Lathe, Drill Press, Welding (TIG/MIG), Torches (Oxy-Acetylene/Propone/MAPP) and Computers.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Training Required: Fork truck, Crane, Lockout/Tagout, GHS, SDS, Hazardous Material Labeling, Fire Extinguisher, SPCC, HazCom, Compressed Gas Cylinders.
