Play-based learning with a little curriculum sprinkled on top, please. | North Raleigh near Six Forks | Full-Time Nanny/Homeschool Educator | ASAP | $35-$40/hr

Description:

We have three kids, two parents working from home, and approximately zero minutes of spare time, which means we have officially reached the point where we need to call in the professionals. We're a family who genuinely loves being together, and we've spent the last several years building something we're really proud of: a close-knit crew of five who laugh a lot, stay curious, and root for each other hard. What we haven't quite figured out is how to clone ourselves, so that's where you come in. We'd love to have you join us by the end of April!
Your hours will be 8:15a - 4:15p, Monday through Friday, for a beautifully consistent 40-hour week. We value open communication, mutual respect, and creating a positive, supportive environment where everyone feels set up for success.
We both moved to North Carolina when we were five (Mom from DC and Dad from Houston) and have been here ever since! We went to the same high school two years apart and three kids and a thriving business later, we are still each other’s best friend and teammate in parenthood, entrepreneurship, and everything else. We value closeness as a family and have absolutely loved welcoming three little besties to the team!
About those little ones… Our eldest is almost six and everything you would expect from a firstborn son. He is organized, smart, articulate, and a natural leader. His four-year-old brother is our curious, empathetic wild card. He is the boundary tester of the bunch, but he is also deeply sensitive and loving. Both boys are fascinated by things that zoom on wheels: monster trucks, Formula 1 race cars, and trains! We’re seeing those same interests develop in their almost-two-year-old little sister. She is a perfect mix of her brothers: shy and headstrong, independent, and timid - with a good dash of her own interests in the mix with baby dolls, kittens, and Elsa. Above all, they share a special bond and are each other’s closest little companions.
This role is a 60/40 split between nannying and homeschooling. After breakfast time in the morning, the kids will transition into schooling time. Mom has designed a schedule and curriculum designed for each of the kids’ interests and abilities. The right person for this role will be someone who can take that mental load from her and take complete charge of planning the academics. The kids are little now, so someone experienced with preschool and kindergarten education will be the most helpful to us right now, but we are hoping you’ll stick with us for years to come, so elementary education experience would be wonderful too! Experience matters more than anything else, but we imagine that someone with a master’s degree in education or early elementary education would thrive here. Plus: experience in the classroom (with pre-K through 2nd grade). It would also be amazing if you were homeschooled and can pull from that knowledge base!
The rest of the day, you’ll be caring for the children with less-formal, but hopefully still educational activities. When you arrive in the morning, you’ll make the kids breakfast, help them get their teeth brushed, then sit down for school. After school, the kids will spend time outside, have lunch and quiet time. You’ll use this time to clean up the dishes from breakfast, fold one load of laundry a day, and plan for the afternoon. The second half of the day is up to you! Since we both work from home, the afternoons may include a visit from one or both of us to play with the kids during some of our downtime, or they may pop into our office. We would spend every second with them if we could, but duty calls, so we take what we can get!
Before you head out, we would love for you to do a 15-minute walkthrough and tidy up from the day. The kids know to clean up after themselves as they go so there should be nothing major and we aren’t expecting any deep cleaning, but since we work from home, it matters to us that spaces are reset throughout the day and again before you leave. The kids can and will help you here. Hurray for extra sets of hands, and very cute hands at that!
Chances are high that a former teacher will excel in this position. We aren’t limiting our search, though! Got an education degree or early childhood certifications? Did you lead a homeschool pod during the pandemic? Were you homeschooled? Throw your hat in the ring! When we think of the qualities of our ideal person for this job, we think of anticipatory judgement, attention to detail, mindfulness of organization and cleanliness, calm amidst the inevitable big feelings of childhood, and confidence with handling three small kids at once. Our kids are close in age, but their brains are in different stages, so we’ll be looking for you to meet each one where they are and help them all to grow. If you’re someone who can plan for weeks at a time but pivot when a curveball gets thrown, has mastered the art of the smooth and tantrumless transition, enjoys playing trains as much as you love practicing handwriting, and knows how to make putting toys away fun and informative at the same time, we would love to meet you!
There will be very little driving in this role, but when you do hit the road, you can use a family van! We are lucky to have lots of space both in and outside of our house for the kids to frolic and play, so even though you’ll be here most of the time, you won’t run out of places to explore! There is a lake, soccer field, and playground just minutes away if you ever feel like a change of scenery.
We have one cat, but she is a bit of a loner, so you may not ever see her.
Mom is immunocompromised, so health and safety are always considerations in our home. We are requiring up-to-date vaccines for COVID-19, the flu, Tdap, and MMR. We are looking for someone who will be mindful of health and hygiene both inside of our home and when you’re away from us to keep everyone safe. We’ll do the same for you!
We're offering $35-$40/hr, guaranteed hours, PTO, a family car for transportation, and a family that will make you feel like you've been part of the team all along
