Full Job Description

Overview
Join our dynamic ophthalmology team as an Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care while supporting the clinical team with accurate documentation and technical assistance. This paid position offers a unique opportunity to combine hands-on patient interaction with detailed medical record management, all within a fast-paced, innovative environment. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help ensure smooth clinic operations and outstanding patient experiences.

Duties

~ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

Assist physician during patient examinations by performing a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information, including, but not limited to, intraocular pressures, basic motility, visual fields, OCT, HVF, Pentacam, Topography, BAT tests, A-Scan ultrasonography, and fundus photography. Administer topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by the provider for testing or treatment
Assist the physician with patient education pertaining to the treatment prescribed.
Conduct intake procedures, including gathering patient information, verifying insurance details, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
Assist the physician during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparations, and documentation.
Document clinical encounters accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems like Compulink, including detailed notes on diagnoses, procedures, and patient interactions.
Support front desk operations by managing patient check-in/check-out processes, scheduling appointments, and handling medical records with precision.
Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols to ensure patient safety and clinic efficiency.
Collaborate with the healthcare team on billing, coding, and insurance documentation to facilitate seamless medical billing processes. Record patient charges for the billing department

Qualifications

Prior experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred.
Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times. Adhere to employer work practices while effectively coping with the typical job stress of a fast-paced medical office.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to eye care, and ophthalmology procedures.
Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate patient care while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
Basic understanding of retail sales principles and retail math can be advantageous for managing optical sales or product recommendations.
Excellent communication skills for effective intake interviews, patient education, and front desk interactions.
Ability to perform vital signs measurement, maintain aseptic technique during procedures, and handle medical records accurately.
Willingness to learn new skills related to ophthalmic technology and clinic operations; previous experience in pediatrics or clinic environments is beneficial.
