Job Title: Pharmacist - PRN

Position Overview

Job Summary

The PRN Pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing accurate dispensing, clinical patient support, and cross-functional collaboration with healthcare professionals to enhance overall patient care. This role prioritizes medication safety, patient education, and strict adherence to regulatory standards while actively contributing to quality improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Medication Dispensing: Accurately prepares, verifies, and dispenses medications in compliance with prescription orders, hospital protocols, and regulatory standards.
Clinical Review: Reviews medication orders for appropriateness, assesses patient medication regimens, and provides evidence-based recommendations to optimize therapy.
Patient Counseling: Counsels patients and their families on proper medication use, potential side effects, and adherence strategies to ensure safe and effective therapy.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partners with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to resolve medication-related issues and improve patient outcomes.
Safety & Compliance: Participates in medication safety initiatives, quality improvement projects, and compliance audits to minimize errors and enhance care delivery.
Protocol Development: Contributes to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, pathways, and evidence-based guidelines to standardize medication use.
Therapy Monitoring: Monitors patient outcomes, evaluates the effectiveness of therapy, and adjusts medications as needed to enhance safety and efficacy.
Documentation: Maintains accurate and timely documentation of clinical interventions, medication therapy management (MTM) activities, and patient consultations in the electronic health record (EHR).
Quality Improvement: Engages in quality improvement initiatives focused on medication safety, efficacy, and adherence, contributing to a culture of excellence.
Professional Development: Stays current with advancements in pharmacotherapy and participates in ongoing education and training activities.
Inventory Management: Assists in managing pharmacy inventory, including monitoring stock levels, ensuring timely replenishment, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Operational Standards: Maintains regular and reliable attendance; complies with all organizational policies and standards; performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy OR Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) required.
Experience: 0-1 years of hospital or retail pharmacy experience required. (New graduates are welcome to apply!)
Licensure: Active Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license in the state of Missouri required.
Certification: Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or other BPS specialist certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Strong understanding of pharmacology, drug interactions, and evidence-based therapeutic practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
High attention to detail and sharp organizational skills to ensure accurate medication dispensing and documentation.
Proven ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in utilizing modern pharmacy software systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Deep commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
