Full Job Description

Overview

Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a CNC Mill and Lathe Set Up Technician, where you'll play a vital role in preparing and configuring precision machining equipment to produce high-quality metal components. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with state-of-the-art CNC machinery, including mills and lathes, utilizing your technical expertise to ensure efficient and accurate production processes. Your hands-on skills and mechanical knowledge will drive the success of our manufacturing operations, supporting lean manufacturing principles and quality standards.

Duties

Set up, calibrate, and operate CNC milling machines and lathes, including Fanuc-controlled equipment, to produce precise parts according to blueprints and technical specifications
Interpret mechanical blueprints and manufacturing drawings to determine tooling, machining sequences, and setup procedures
Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and CAM programming software; adjust programs as needed for optimal performance
Perform precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and other precision instruments to verify part dimensions and quality
Select appropriate tooling and fixtures; install and align tools accurately using manual machining techniques when necessary
Conduct machine setup activities such as tool changes, zeroing axes, and verifying machine parameters for consistent output
Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, programming errors, or machine malfunctions; perform basic repairs or escalate as needed
Maintain a clean and organized work area; adhere to safety protocols including proper use of hand tools, power tools, grinders, welding equipment, and forklift operation when required
Support quality inspection processes through measurement validation and adherence to GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards

Skills

Extensive experience with CNC G-code programming and CNC machining operations on mills and lathes
Proficiency in reading mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing specifications
Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret mechanical blueprints and assembly instructions
Skilled in the use of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines for quality control
Familiarity with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like SolidWorks or similar programs for part design review
Knowledge of machining tools including end mills, drills, grinders, and tooling fixtures; ability to select appropriate tools for specific applications
Ability to perform manual machining tasks when necessary using hand tools or manual machines
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to optimize setup times and reduce waste
Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, feed rates, speeds, M-code adjustments etc.
Mechanical aptitude with experience in welding or plastics injection molding is a plus but not required
Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members on machine setup procedures and quality issues
