Futures Explored Creative Arts & Media Program in Concord is a hands-on media and arts program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our students produce short films, podcasts, voice-over recordings, visual art, performances, and more. We're looking for passionate, creative instructors to join our team and help our students develop their artistic talents in an inclusive and collaborative environment.
We're seeking a knowledgeable Performing Art Instructor to join our Creative Arts & Media team. The Performing Art Instructor will provide hands-on instruction, mentor students in developing their artistic skills, and collaborate with fellow instructors on interdisciplinary projects. This position supports classroom instruction, creative productions, and special events while fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment.
Experience as a Performing Arts Instructor, Teaching Artist, Theater Instructor, Acting Coach, Drama Teacher, Community Arts Educator, Special Education Teacher, Adult Education Instructor, or similar role is highly valued. Candidates with experience developing creative curriculum, directing performances, mentoring performers, or working in inclusive arts programs are encouraged to apply.
Performing Art Instructor
- Demonstrate acting, voice acting, singing, dancing, improvisation, and other performance techniques while mentoring students across a variety of performing arts disciplines.
- Support actors and directors during film production classes, performances, and creative media projects.
- Collaborate with acting instructors to demonstrate scenes, performance techniques, and help students develop projects for classroom showcases and public performances.
- Develop curriculum, lesson plans, and facilitate engaging performing arts classes.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Performing Arts, Theater, Drama, Music, Arts Education, Film, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of professional experience in performing arts, theater, film, arts education, or a related field.
- Must possess a valid California driver's license, maintain an insurable driving record, provide proof of auto insurance, and be willing to transport participants as needed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of Live Scan criminal background clearance (or exemption), health screening, and TB test prior to employment.
- Passion for teaching and supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
- Background in performing arts, including acting, voice acting, singing, dancing, improv, and related performance disciplines.
- Experience in theater and/or film productions, live performances, sketch comedy, audition preparation, and building performance reels.
- Experience in educational settings or working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a customer-service mindset.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, solve problems, adapt to changing assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position and safely perform assigned job duties.
Great if you have:
- Knowledgeable of Lanterman Act regulations, Regional Center guidelines, and State of California Licensing regulations.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED by a qualified instructor.
