Hybrid | Washington, DC | Tuesday–Thursday onsite
Our client, a leading nonprofit organization serving adults age 50+, is seeking a Human-Centered Design Consultant to improve workforce and financial wellness programs through service design, research, and participant-centered innovation.
This is not a product or UX design role. We are seeking someone with experience redesigning programs, services, or service delivery models within nonprofit, government, healthcare, workforce development, or other mission-driven organizations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct qualitative research, stakeholder interviews, and research synthesis.
- Analyze participant journeys and current service delivery models.
- Create journey maps, service blueprints, and service improvement recommendations.
- Facilitate workshops with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Prototype and test service improvements using iterative Human-Centered Design methods.
- Deliver actionable recommendations to improve participant experience, operational effectiveness, and program outcomes.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Human-Centered Design, Service Design, or Program Design experience.
- Experience improving services or programs rather than solely digital products.
- Background in nonprofit, government, healthcare, workforce development, public benefits, education, or community services strongly preferred.
- Strong experience with qualitative research, journey mapping, service blueprinting, systems thinking, and workshop facilitation.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Workforce development or employment programs
- Economic mobility or financial inclusion initiatives
- Older adult or community-based programs
- Public sector or mission-driven consulting
Please Note: Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on SaaS, consumer applications, UI/UX, visual design, or digital product design without service or program redesign experience are unlikely to be a strong fit. #IND1
