A respected local CPA firm is seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to serve as a Senior Tax Manager. This leadership role reports directly to the Managing Shareholder. The successful candidate will lead, manage, and grow the firm's tax practice while overseeing department workflows, staff development, client service, and technical reviews. This position is an in-office role located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and serves as a critical succession-planning opportunity with a potential path to ownership and partnership.

Job Responsibilities for the Tax Manager:

Review highly complex individual and business tax returns to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Oversee tax department scheduling, deadlines, and staff assignments.
Supervise, train, and mentor junior tax staff to foster professional growth.
Meet directly with clients to serve as a trusted financial and tax advisor.
Provide advanced tax planning, specialized consulting, and technical tax research.
Resolve IRS notices and manage correspondence with various taxing authorities.
Enhance internal workflows, quality control systems, and client service standards.
Actively participate in developing and expanding the firm's tax practice.

Qualifications for the Tax Manager:

Active CPA license is strictly required.
Minimum of 7+ years of recent public accounting tax experience is preferred.
Prior manager-level or senior tax leadership experience is strongly preferred.
Advanced expertise in reviewing diverse individual and business tax returns.
Strong technical tax research, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for client and team interactions.
Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines, complex client projects, and staff duties.
Strong interest in long-term leadership, succession planning, and future partner-track growth.

Compensation for the Tax Manager:

$125,000 - $130,000 Annually

Pay: $125,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
