Full Job Description

Since 1916, The Settlement Home for Children has been promoting healing and growth in children, young adults, and families by providing a continuum of care, support, and resources to those who have experienced severe emotional trauma, abuse, or neglect — with a vision of ending the cycle of child abuse.

We are seeking an entry-level Human Resources Coordinator who is looking to grow into an HR Generalist/Recruiter role over the next 1-2 years. This is an in-office position, five days a week, with a pay rate of $23.00/hr.

As our Human Resources Coordinator, you'll be the friendly, organized presence behind our HR operations. In this role, you'll support employees, guide new hires through their first steps with us, and keep our records accurate so our team can do their best work for the children and families we serve. The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for the administrative support of day-to-day human resource operations, including assisting with recruitment, new hire onboarding, benefits administration, employee file maintenance, Human Resources Information System (HRIS) data entry, and other duties as assigned. The Human Resources Coordinator will ensure compliance with all applicable state regulatory and contract requirements as well as organizational policies, procedures, and practices.

Essential Job Functions & Expectations

Roles and Responsibilities

Administrative

Provide customer service to organization employees
Assist employees and supervisors with basic interpretation of HR policies and procedures
Assist the Human Resources Director with HR projects
Assist with preparation and implementation of employee recognition events
Assist other departments and staff as needed and under the direction of the Human Resources Director

Recruitment/New Hire Process

Assist Recruiter/Onboarding Specialist with recruitment efforts, including scheduling interviews and conducting new hire orientation
Conduct pre-employment activities (new-employee background checks, driving history checks, oral drug tests, employment verifications, reference checks, etc.)
Serve as a point person for all newly hired employee questions

Employee File & HRIS Maintenance

Use HR software to manage and update the system to capture terminations, job changes, payroll, and employee benefits (as applicable), including bonuses and leaves of absence
Maintain confidential employee files and personnel actions, including performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and terminations
Perform file audits to ensure all required employee documentation is collected and maintained
Prepare pay change and status change memos
Complete termination paperwork and assist with exit interviews

Benefit Administration

Assist with annual benefit open enrollment
Assist with new hire and newly eligible employee benefit enrollment

Compliance

Assist with ensuring legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements
Assist HR Director with routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs
Assist with leave management administration, including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, WC, etc., in the HRIS system
Assist in processing and managing Worker's Compensation claims

Employee Relations

Assist HR Director as necessary, including conducting exit interviews when needed
Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the HR Director
Establish and maintain positive working relationships across multiple teams; building relationships to achieve the organization's goals
Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of employee recognition events
Manage monthly employee recognition tasks for birthdays, anniversaries, and Employee of the Month

Training

Prepare monthly safety training and distribute it to staff via email
Maintain safety training distribution records

Other

Make copies; process mail, scan, and email documents; and perform other clerical functions
Assist or prepare correspondence as requested
Provide administrative and tactical support for HR-related projects
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years' general human resources experience
Experience with HRMS/HRIS systems
Must meet personnel requirements as outlined by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standards for Residential Operations
Have a valid driver's license and less than 2 moving violations and/or 1 accident within the past 3 years
Must have and maintain current auto liability insurance
Must be able to pass a drug screen

Preferred Qualifications and Education

Bachelor's or advanced degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field
At least 1 year of full cycle recruiting experience

The Settlement Home for Children maintains a non-smoking campus. Non-smoking candidates are preferred.

Essential Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Office environment. Must be able to lift and/or exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Position frequently involves walking, standing, sitting, stooping, lifting, speaking, and repetitive motion. Position may occasionally involve reaching, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must have close visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected) so as to prepare and analyze data and figures; perform extensive reading and transcription; operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to hear so as to receive detailed information through oral communication; receive information through electronic, telephone, and/or radio frequency.
