Job Summary:
The Campus Police Investigator I is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the university community and campus facilities through proactive patrol, enforcement of state laws and university policies, and emergency response services. This position exercises law enforcement authority to protect individuals and property from harm, loss, or damage; responds to calls for service; conducts investigations; and supports a safe and secure learning environment through professional and community-oriented policing practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Ability to learn and work with computer database systems.
- Not later than first day of employment, must hold a valid driver’s license and successfully meet all minimum requirements of WV Code 30-29-1 et. seq. as to standards for law enforcement officers of West Virginia.
- Must either have current police officer certification in WV or be eligible as to all Academy Entry Standards (including health and fitness) at the time of hire [http://www.dcjs.wv.gov/law-enforcement-training/Documents/149CSR2.pdf ]. This includes the National Fire Protection Association 1582 Medical Selection Guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current West Virginia Law Enforcement Certification preferred
- Graduation from an accredited police academy and possession of a valid law enforcement certification
- Prior campus law enforcement, public safety, or related law enforcement experience preferred
Appointment to this position will be contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
