Orion Solutions, LLC is actively seeking a Shipboard Deck Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME), supporting a government customer in San Diego, CA.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Lead Deck SME will provide senior-level deck operations, deck systems, and shipboard seamanship expertise in support of Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNSP) Readiness Assessment Training Team (RATT) ship visits. This role will assess and train ship's force on deck systems and operations, including anchor, windlass, mooring, boat handling, crane, stern gate, amphibious operations, and underway replenishment systems. The Lead Deck SME will identify material and procedural deficiencies, support AWR and report development, and advise shipboard leadership on safe, effective deck operations and maintenance practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducted shipboard material condition assessments, deckplate training, safety walk-throughs, equipment validation, discrepancy reporting, and corrective action recommendations.
Mentor ship's force personnel and advising ship leadership on deck equipment readiness, operating procedures, and maintenance practices.
Must be knowledgeable of operations and maintenance requirements for deck systems currently employed by the U.S. Navy.
Must be knowledgeable of Shipboard safety, rigging, hazardous material/PPE requirements, cleanliness and stowage standards, and operational risk management.
Understand and provide guidance on shipboard technical data such as: Technical manuals, CSOSS/EOSS, safety procedures, approved maintenance procedure, technical diagrams.
Conduct dynamic assessment of the sailors' abilities to comply with approved maintenance and operational procedures and thereafter provide formal appraisal of performance with recommendations for improvement.
Document the training conducted with specifics of the individual areas / watch station and is responsible for generation of a formal assessment of measure of success via written report.
Reporting, analysis, recommendations, corrective actions and post-action reporting with crews as they prepare for major evolutions, certifications and inspections.
As part of an onboard technical assist visit, provide ships force with on-the-job training (OJT).
Assist with the identification of required repair parts necessary to correct system malfunctions.
Identify performance/operational weaknesses throughout the assists.
Provide training and expertise to support identified weaknesses and improve operational readiness.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (Associate degree, Navy technical training, or equivalent operational experience may also qualify).

MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of fifteen (15) years of supervisory experience in analyses, information system operations, and implementation of technical projects.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of supervisory-level experience on warships or military auxiliaries as Ships' Boatswain responsible for overall deck operations.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience with the technical aspects of anchor, windlass, mooring, boat handling, crane, stern gate operations, amphibious operations, and underway replenishment systems on warships or military auxiliaries.
At least one tour of duty with maintenance/training staff experience at one or more of the following assignments: Immediate Superior In Charge (ISIC), Type Commander (TYCOM), Afloat Training Group, Navy Safety Center Analyst; INSURV Assessor.
Experience as a Maintenance & Material Management Coordinator (3MC) (preferred).
9502 Instructor NEC/MTS-ATS preferred.
Proven proficiency in PC skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, consulting/client management, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proven strong ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment.
Hold Current Secret Clearance or able to obtain Secret Clearance.
US Citizenship required.
Location: San Diego, CA.
Travel: 15% - 40% of the time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Must be able to spend extended periods on your feet while instructing and performing assessments.
Work may be performed in office environments, shipboard spaces, industrial maintenance facilities, shipyards, or waterfront operations areas
