Full Job Description

Title: Communication Site Technician – Electrician

Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Communication Site Technician – Electrician is a licensed journeyman electrician responsible for the electrical infrastructure and overall facility operations of communication sites within the UCA network. The position installs, maintains, and repairs commercial-grade AC electrical services, DC power systems, backup generators, and site grounding systems, and supports the general upkeep of UCA communication shelters and sites statewide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Active Journeyman Electrician license issued by the Utah Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL), in good standing, required at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.

Four (4) or more years of commercial or residential electrical experience.

Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) as adopted and amended by the State of Utah, and applicable local electrical codes.

Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical drawings, specifications, and RFIs.

Valid driver license with a clean driving record; ability to safely operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles.

Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Five to seven (5–7) years of experience performing electrical construction in commercial and/or industrial environments.

OSHA 10 certification.

EXAMPLES OF TASKS/DUTIES

Install and maintain commercial-grade AC electrical wiring, services, panels, and systems in accordance with the NEC and Utah electrical code.

Install, maintain, and repair DC power systems, rectifiers/chargers, and battery banks.

Install, maintain, and repair emergency LP and diesel backup generators and associated automatic transfer switches.

Install, maintain, and repair site grounding systems; stay current with Motorola R56 grounding standards and techniques.

Install and maintain site alarms and monitoring systems.

Install, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment.

Install, maintain, and repair propane systems, tanks, lines, evaporators, and sensors.

Coordinate and assist with the filling of propane tanks at communication sites.

Maintain communication shelters, including roofing, foundational support, doors, exterior and interior walls, and other related items.

Perform and/or coordinate tower maintenance.

Assist field technicians with various jobs and projects.

Attend meetings as required.

Regular attendance.

Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

(Includes knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after entry into position)

Expert knowledge of AC/DC wiring codes, including the NEC and Utah amendments.

Knowledge and implementation of Motorola R56 grounding standards.

Ability to properly CAD weld site grounding components.

LP best practices and codes.

Ability to design, fabricate, construct, and install communication site related components out of wood, steel, aluminum, or other raw materials.

Welding skills.

Ability to operate heavy machinery: snow cats, loaders, graders, backhoes, forklifts, etc.

Ability to properly and safely load, secure, and haul large cargo on flatbed trailers.

Ability to operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles to reach mountaintop sites in adverse weather conditions.

Communication skills.

Organizational and planning skills.

Problem-solving skills.

Basic mechanical aptitude, basic mathematical ability, and the ability to read construction documents used daily.

Equipped with all tools required by UCA policy and able to use them to perform assigned tasks.

Team-player mentality: listens to and understands directions, works cooperatively with others, and works safely without any threat to self or others.

Interest and aptitude to learn job-related material through oral instruction and observation, typically in an on-the-job setting.

Willingness to participate in field training, whether on-the-job, classroom-based, or virtual.

Demonstrates UCA's values and safety culture in daily work activities, behavior, and decision making.

Ability to keep an inventory of commonly used repair parts.

Knowledge and use of UCA purchasing policies.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Risks found in the field environment include: working and driving in adverse weather conditions, working long hours, lifting heavy objects, traveling the state, and working on remote mountaintop sites for extended periods of time.

Able to work project schedules, including weekends and overtime.

Being on call.

Pay: $32.00 - $45.00 per hour
