GoldCap Education is an Iowa City based tutoring company expanding tutoring services into the Des Moines metro area, with an initial focus on West Des Moines, Clive, Grimes, Waukee, Johnston, Urbandale, and surrounding communities.
GoldCap is an Iowa City company started, owned, and operated by current and former classroom teachers — so we get it. We know how much teachers already carry, how much planning matters, and how powerful it can be when students get the right support from someone who actually understands learning. We provide thoughtful, teacher-led tutoring that is warm, flexible, professional, and responsive to each student’s needs. No scripted packets. No one-size-fits-all program. Just good educators doing what good educators do best: figuring out what a student needs and helping them move forward.
We are looking for professional, licensed teacher tutors who are experienced, motivated, and comfortable working independently with students and families. This role is a strong fit for educators who enjoy individualized instruction, can adapt in the moment, and are confident developing or modifying tutoring materials.
Position Overview:
- Professional Teacher Tutors provide individualized academic support to students in elementary, middle school, and/or high school. Tutors may support students in literacy, writing, math, executive functioning, study skills, homework support, test preparation, or other subject-specific areas depending on their background and expertise.
- As we ramp-up in the DSM area, tutoring sessions will typically take place in public community spaces, such as libraries or other agreed-upon locations, as well as online when appropriate. As we continue to grow, we plan to have an on-site location in the Des Moines area for tutoring services and other opportunities.
- Tutors should be comfortable working independently, managing communication around student progress, and preparing effective materials for each session.
- This is not a high-pressure, scripted tutoring-center role. We are looking for educators who can bring their professional judgment, creativity, and care to the work.
- GoldCap provides the structure so tutors can focus on teaching: we handle the marketing, insurance, student/family inquiries, intake, screening for fit, tutor-student matching, support with scheduling and logistics, payment collection, payroll, family communication as needed, and ongoing consultation, problem-solving, and support with materials, curriculum planning, student needs, and parent questions.
We are most interested in educators who are:
- Licensed teachers or experienced educators with strong instructional skills
- Current or recently former classroom teachers
- Comfortable working independently with students and families
- Skilled at assessing student needs and adjusting instruction accordingly
- Able to develop, adapt, or supplement tutoring materials and curriculum
- Reliable, professional, and clear in communication
- Warm, student-centered, and able to build confidence with learners
- Interested in flexible, part-time tutoring work outside of the traditional school day and summers
- Excited about being part of a growing, teacher-led education company
- Our highest demand is typically for math and literacy, but others are welcome to apply
Professional Teacher Tutors may be responsible for:
- Providing individualized tutoring sessions for students
- Assessing student strengths, needs, and current skill levels
- Developing or selecting appropriate tutoring materials
- Creating short-term and long-term tutoring goals
- Adjusting instruction based on student progress
- Supporting academic skills, confidence, organization, and independence
- Communicating briefly and professionally with families about student progress
- Maintaining reliability, professionalism, and consistency with scheduled sessions
- Coordinating with GoldCap Education staff regarding student needs, scheduling, and fit
Required Qualifications
- Current or previous state teaching licensensure
- Classroom teaching experience
- Ability to independently assess student needs and plan instruction
- Experience developing curriculum, interventions, assessments, or individualized learning materials
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Compensation
Pay ranges from $40–$65 per hour, depending on experience, credentials, licensure, subject-area expertise. Tutors with advanced credentials, specialized expertise, strong independent planning skills, or the ability to support higher-need students may qualify for higher compensation within the range.
Schedule and Location
This is a flexible, part-time tutoring opportunity. Tutoring will typically occur after school, evenings, or weekends, depending on student and tutor availability.
GoldCap is initially building its Des Moines-area tutoring services through public and community-based meeting spaces before moving into a dedicated location. Tutors should be comfortable meeting students in agreed-upon public spaces, such as libraries or community locations, and/or providing online tutoring when appropriate.
