About Park Slope Schoolhouse
Park Slope Schoolhouse is a nonprofit early childhood center serving children ages one to four in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Our play-based philosophy is rooted in developmentally appropriate practice, with curriculum emerging from each child's individual development, interests, and needs. Position Summary
Park Slope Schoolhouse is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Head Teacher for our 2-year-old classroom.
The ideal candidate is a confident classroom leader who is passionate about early childhood education, enjoys collaborating with colleagues and families, and is committed to providing high-quality, child-centered learning experiences. We are looking for someone who embraces a play-based philosophy, values reflective teaching, and is eager to continue learning and growing professionally.
Teacher Schedule
Our full-time teachers enjoy a rotating schedule that promotes work-life balance.
- Week 1: 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM
- Week 2: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- Week 3: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a warm, safe, and engaging classroom environment.
- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum.
- Observe, document, and assess children's development to support individual growth.
- Supervise all classroom activities while ensuring children's health and safety.
- Lead weekly classroom team meetings.
- Partner with assistant teachers to maintain a collaborative classroom environment.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences.
- Communicate regularly with families through email, our school app, phone, and in person.
- Plan and coordinate classroom projects, celebrations, and special events.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Early Childhood Education (or currently enrolled in a Master's program).
- New York State Teacher Certification (or actively working toward certification).
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in an early childhood classroom.
- Strong knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Warm, calm, nurturing, and professional demeanor.
- Collaborative, organized, and dependable.
- Passion for play-based learning and reflective teaching.
Salary
$55,000 - $70,000 annually, based on education and experience.
