Executive Producer — Feature Documentary, Music & Global Impact
Some films are made to be watched. This film is being made to help us remember how to be human.
At a moment of profound loneliness, division and emotional exhaustion, Empathy: The Pursuit of Joy — A Hero’s Journey brings together cinematic storytelling, original music, modern science and secular Tibetan wisdom to explore a hopeful possibility: Can a film do more than move an audience—can it measurably help people reconnect, self-regulate and choose compassion?
This is not a concept waiting to begin. Approximately 60% of principal photography has already been completed, an accomplished interdisciplinary team is in place, and leading scientific collaborators are preparing to help design and measure the effects of the film’s narrative, imagery and sound.
We are now seeking an extraordinary Executive Producer to help carry the project through its defining next chapter—and into the world.
About the Project
Empathy is a feature documentary and immersive musical experience created to make contemplative wisdom emotionally compelling, culturally relevant and accessible to a global audience.
Rather than simply explaining empathy, joy and emotional regulation, the film is designed to let audiences experience them through:
- Powerful human stories and cinematic documentary footage
- Secular Tibetan wisdom translated for contemporary life
- Original music, chanting, breath-paced sound and neuroacoustic elements
- A first-of-its-kind soundtrack and immersive “sound bath” experience
- Scientific research measuring how narrative, music and imagery influence emotional state, connection, empathy and meaningful action
- A global impact campaign extending the experience beyond the screen
We have filmed extraordinary material and assembled scientists, artists, contemplative leaders and cultural collaborators. Our next major production chapter is planned for October 2026 in Dharamshala, India, where we intend to complete important filming, meet with Tibetan leaders and pursue an opportunity to receive the blessing of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the project.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a highly accomplished Executive Producer with significant credits in feature film, documentary or premium unscripted storytelling—ideally including award-nominated or award-winning work.
This is not a ceremonial credit or advisory position. We are looking for a true champion: someone who sees the project’s cultural potential, falls in love with its purpose and uses their experience, judgment and relationships to help it reach the largest possible audience.
The ideal producer brings the strategic stature of a major Hollywood executive producer together with the soul of a storyteller and the determination of a movement builder.
Responsibilities
The Executive Producer will work closely with the film’s existing executive and creative leadership to:
- Develop and execute the project’s financing, fundraising and capitalization strategy
- Introduce mission-aligned investors, philanthropists, foundations, family offices, brands and strategic partners
- Help secure the remaining resources required for production, post-production, music, research and distribution
- Strengthen the film’s overall creative and commercial positioning
- Advise on story, production, editorial priorities, packaging and talent strategy
- Help attach globally recognized musicians, actors and cultural figures capable of significantly expanding the film’s reach
- Activate relationships across the film, television, music, philanthropic and social-impact communities
- Support outreach to A-list artists and public figures whose work and values align with the project
- Help identify and engage distribution, sales, festival, streaming and international partners
- Guide the film’s awards, premiere and global impact strategy
- Participate in high-level meetings, selected production moments and key creative decisions
- Champion the project consistently and help ensure that it is completed, positioned and brought to audiences worldwide
A-List Talent and Music Strategy
A central priority is attaching globally recognized artistic voices who can transform an important documentary into a genuine cultural event.
We are particularly interested in an Executive Producer with the credibility and relationships to engage artists at the level of Sting, Lady Gaga, Chaka Khan, Jon Batiste and other influential musicians, actors and cultural leaders.
The film already has meaningful music-industry participation and an ambitious sonic vision. The next Executive Producer should be able to build upon that foundation, attract additional world-class collaborators and help establish the soundtrack and sound-bath experience as distinctive creative works in their own right.
Experience working with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan community, internationally recognized humanitarians or prominent artist-activists would be especially valuable.
Ideal Background
We would love to meet candidates who offer many of the following:
- Substantial Executive Producer, Producer or senior film-industry leadership experience
- Recognized credits in feature documentaries, narrative films or premium unscripted projects
- Award-winning or award-nominated work, or meaningful participation in major festivals and awards campaigns
- A strong network across Hollywood, independent film, streaming platforms and international distribution
- Demonstrated success raising or securing financing for films, media or impact initiatives
- Relationships within the music industry, including artists, managers, labels, publishers and music supervisors
- Experience packaging projects with high-profile actors, musicians or public figures
- Relationships with philanthropists, foundations, investors, family offices or mission-aligned brands
- Strong business judgment, fundraising ability and understanding of film finance
- Experience guiding projects through production, post-production, festivals, sales and distribution
- Genuine interest in empathy, human flourishing, music, neuroscience, contemplative practice or social transformation
- The ability to combine ambition, emotional intelligence, persistence and impeccable professional relationships
What Success Looks Like
Within the first phase of the engagement, the Executive Producer will help us:
- Evaluate the current film, team, materials, budget and production plan
- Refine the financing and fundraising strategy
- Prioritize the highest-value industry, philanthropic and talent relationships
- Secure meetings with prospective funding and strategic partners
- Develop a focused A-list attachment strategy
- Strengthen the film’s creative package and industry presentation
- Prepare for the October 2026 Dharamshala production chapter
- Establish a credible path through completion, post-production, premiere and distribution
Working Relationship and Location
Our team works remotely and does not maintain a daily production office. The role offers substantial flexibility, with in-person participation expected primarily for important meetings, selected shoots and major production or industry opportunities.
Candidates based in Los Angeles or Southern California are strongly preferred, allowing the Executive Producer and leadership team to build a genuine working relationship through occasional in-person meetings. Travel may be discussed depending on the producer’s role in specific production chapters.
Compensation and Participation
This is currently structured as an equity-based Executive Producer partnership, not a salaried staff position.
Compensation will include negotiated equity points and meaningful participation in the project’s future commercial proceeds. The final structure and Executive Producer credit will reflect the candidate’s experience, relationships, level of involvement and tangible contribution to the film’s financing, talent strategy, completion and distribution.
All terms will be clearly documented in a mutually agreed written agreement.
Why This Film, and Why Now?
The world does not need another lecture about empathy.
It needs an experience so emotionally powerful, musically alive and deeply human that people want to feel it again—and want to carry that feeling into their relationships, communities and choices.
We are taking ideas that can sometimes feel academic, inaccessible or overly contemplative and translating them into something cinematic, joyful, emotionally irresistible and culturally alive. The story is underway. The footage exists. The science and creative foundations are being built.
What we need now is the experienced producer who can recognize what this could become, gather extraordinary people around it and make certain it reaches the world.
If you have spent your career building films, relationships and influence—and are now looking for a project that could become part of your legacy—we would love to hear from you.
