Full Job Description

Truck Driver – Seafood Transport (Portland, ME to Boston, MA)

Location: Portland, ME
Job Type: Part-time, 25-30 hours per week, Regular Schedule (with flexibility)
Driving Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (with some flexibility around holidays)

Driving Hours: 6:00am – 4:00pm (the end time may vary)

Job Summary:

Upstream Trucking, partnering with Bangs Island Mussels, is seeking a dependable, timely, and safety-conscious Truck Driver to join our team located on Casco Bay to transport fresh and frozen seafood roundtrip from Portland, Maine to Boston, Massachusetts three days a week. The driver will operate a 26' refrigerated box truck, ensuring proper temperature control and the safe delivery of perishable cargo. This role involves loading and unloading seafood using pallet jacks, completing daily truck inspections, and adhering to all safety and DOT regulations. The driver will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of professionalism, punctuality, and customer service, while also exhibiting flexibility with driving days around holiday schedules.

Reports To:

The delivery driver reports to the General Manager at Upstream.

Responsibilities and Duties:

· Transport Seafood: Safely transport fresh seafood roundtrip from Portland, ME to Boston, MA three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday), ensuring timely deliveries.

· Truck Operations: Operate a 26’ refrigerated box truck to maintain proper temperature controls (32°F to 38°F) for seafood products during transport.

· Loading & Unloading: Load and unload cargo using a pallet jack and fork truck at both pick-up and delivery locations, ensuring proper safety and handling and care of all items.

· Truck Inspections: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the truck to ensure it is in safe operating condition. Report any mechanical issues immediately to management.

· Verify Cargo: Compare shipping documents with cargo

· Route Planning & Timeliness: Follow assigned routes from Portland to Boston, ensuring punctual deliveries while optimizing for safety and efficiency.

· Safety Compliance: Adhere to all state and federal driving regulations, including DOT hours-of-service rules, weight limits, and traffic laws.

· Communication: Communicate with warehouse manager regarding delivery schedule and any potential delays

· Customer Interaction: Communicate clearly and professionally with warehouse manager, warehouse staff, and customers to ensure smooth and efficient deliveries.

· Record Keeping: Complete required paperwork, including delivery logs, mileage, fuel receipts, inspection forms and incidents, and submit them in a timely manner.

· Flexibility Around Holidays: Flexibility in driving schedule is required around holidays (for example, adjusting travel days when holidays fall on regular workdays).

· Training Assistance: Assist in training and mentoring new drivers, including demonstrating proper use of equipment, safe driving practices, and company procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a 26' refrigerated box truck or similar vehicle.

· License: Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

· Safety Standards: Proven ability to maintain safe driving practices and excellent safety record. Completion of a background check is required (Upstream obtains for you).

· Physical Requirements: Ability to load and unload seafood using pallet jacks (physical lifting may be required). Must be able to lift up-to 50 lbs.

· Professionalism: Strong communication, customer service skills, dependability, and punctuality required.

· Flexibility: Willingness to adjust driving days around holidays and high-demand periods, ensuring continuity of service.

· Team-Oriented: Ability to work effectively with a team, including warehouse personnel, and other employees.

Salary:

· Up to $26 per hour
