Location Supervisor

Type: Full-Time
Division: DFW (Exempt)

As a Supervisor at Texas Chess Center, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of a center location, serving as the primary on-site leader responsible for ensuring a high-quality experience for students, families, and visitors. This role combines operational management, staff supervision, customer service, chess instruction, and tournament direction to support the successful delivery of programs and events. The Supervisor serves as the key decision-maker on site, maintaining facility standards, guiding team performance, and ensuring all activities run efficiently, professionally, and in alignment with the organization's mission.

Typical Schedule

Core Working Days: Saturday-Wednesday

As a salaried, exempt position, this role requires a professional commitment that may extend beyond standard core hours. Candidates must have the flexibility to adjust their schedule to accommodate evening meetings, weekend operational needs, or urgent project deadlines as dictated by the business.

Core Responsibilities

Supervision & Operations Management (45%)

Oversee and direct daily operations during open play sessions, classes, tournaments, and special events to ensure a smooth and positive customer experience.
Review staff scheduling requests and provide staffing recommendations to the Division Manager based on operational needs.
Lead the onboarding and training of new Associates, ensuring adherence to company procedures, safety standards, and customer service expectations.
Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming facility environment for customers, staff, and visitors.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students, parents, guests, and community members at the location.
Address customer inquiries, concerns, and escalated issues promptly, professionally, and with a customer-focused approach.
Supervise and support location staff by providing coaching, performance feedback, corrective action, and documentation when necessary.
Foster a positive and inclusive community culture by consistently and fairly enforcing behavioral standards and company policies.
Manage memberships, program enrollments, payments, refunds, and account updates through company systems.
Exercise signing authority for tournament prize payouts and manage approved location expenses using a company-issued debit card.
Collaborate with the Division Manager and senior leadership team on staffing, reporting, operational improvements, and strategic initiatives.
Travel between company locations as required to support operations, events, and business needs.

Tournament Direction and Management (30%)

Serve as Chief Tournament Director for all USCF-rated tournaments conducted at the location.
Direct and oversee tournament operations, ensuring compliance with USCF rules, regulations, and standards.
Make real-time decisions regarding rules interpretation, dispute resolution, and tournament administration.
Manage all tournament logistics, including player registration, pairings using tournament management software (Caissa), prize distribution, and event scheduling.
Review and submit rating reports, correcting errors and resolving discrepancies as needed.
Maintain tournament integrity by enforcing behavioral expectations, sportsmanship standards, and fair-play policies.
Address player, parent, and participant concerns professionally and efficiently during events.

Chess Instruction

Teach weekly classes, chess camps, and school programs using the TCC Curriculum.
Provide clear, consistent instruction in basic chess fundamentals; advanced playing strength is not required.
Support program quality through attention to detail and lesson execution.
Promote sportsmanship, critical thinking, problem-solving, and respectful behavior among students.
Ensure classes begin and end on schedule and that all instructional spaces are organized and prepared.
Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to students and parents when appropriate.

Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Professional demeanor and effective teamwork skills.
Patience, flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
Prior teaching or chess experience is a plus.
