Full Job Description

Latitude Legal is seeking a California-licensed Commercial Contracts & Compliance attorney for a full-time, engagement-to-hire opportunity with a nationally recognized consumer lifestyle and pop culture brand. While the role is ideally hybrid out of the firm's Los Angeles headquarters (two days/week), the team is willing to consider a fully remote arrangement for an exceptional candidate. The engagement is expected to last approximately 6–8 weeks, with the potential to convert to a permanent position for the right candidate.

This is a broad, generalist in-house role covering three core areas: commercial contracts, regulatory and product compliance, and marketing law. It is well-suited to an attorney at the earlier stages of their in-house or transactional career who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and enjoys moving quickly across different subject matter areas. The role is hands-on from day one and offers real exposure to the full range of issues a retail and consumer products company faces on a daily basis.

What You'll Do Includes:

Draft, review, negotiate, and revise a range of commercial agreements, including IP licensing agreements (e.g., entertainment, music, and character licenses), social media influencer and brand partnership agreements, NDAs, and SaaS and vendor contracts.
Serve as a day-to-day resource for the business on contract questions, helping internal teams move deals forward efficiently while managing risk.
Advise on product safety and regulatory compliance matters, including CPSC requirements, California Proposition 65, extended producer responsibility laws, climate disclosure requirements, and related environmental and product liability obligations. This role is expected to ultimately take primary ownership of the company's compliance monitoring and response in these areas.
Track developing regulatory requirements at the state and federal level, particularly California-specific frameworks, and flag material changes for the legal team and relevant business stakeholders.
Support marketing and advertising initiatives by reviewing promotional materials, social media campaigns, and influencer content; drafting sweepstakes and contest terms and conditions; and advising on FTC guidelines and applicable advertising law.
Advise on product launches and new initiatives from a legal and compliance standpoint
Collaborate with internal business teams and outside counsel to address day-to-day legal needs and provide practical, commercially grounded guidance across merchandising, e-commerce, supply chain, and marketing.

Who You Are:

California-licensed attorney with prior experience gained in a law firm, in-house department, or government setting. Candidates should be able to demonstrate meaningful, relevant experience across one or more of the practice areas this role covers, along with a genuine interest in the work.
Hands-on experience with commercial contract drafting and negotiation is required; IP licensing, influencer agreements, SaaS, or similar transactional experience is a plus.
Exposure to or strong interest in regulatory compliance is highly valued and will set candidates apart, particularly consumer product safety, environmental law, or California-specific regulatory frameworks (Prop 65, EPR, climate disclosure)
Familiarity with marketing and advertising law (e.g., FTC guidelines, promotions, sweepstakes) is a plus but not required.
Practical and business-oriented; comfortable giving clear advice directly to non-lawyer stakeholders across a fast-moving retail environment.
Organized, responsive, and able to manage multiple workstreams independently in a remote or hybrid setting.
Licensed to practice law in California and in good standing.

Compensation:

Pay: The salary range for this role is $120,000-$150,000, plus discretionary bonuses. Pay is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, and market supply/demand.
