Job Overview
We are seeking a Field Safety & Quality Control Technician that is responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and ensuring quality standards are met on environmental remediation and client location sites. This role requires hands-on experience operating heavy equipment, an understanding of OSHA regulations, and the ability to document and report field conditions with accuracy. The technician works closely with project managers, field crews, clients and subcontractors to promote a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement.
Responsibilities
Field Safety
- Review / conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task safety briefings for field team members
- Monitor site activities for OSHA, other regulatory agencies, and Client compliance
- Inspect personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper use across all site team members
- Report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions
- Assist in the investigation of incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions
- Assist in the preparation of written reports
- Coach team members and assist them in correcting gaps that are found
- Promote a solid safety culture along with equipment inspections and maintenance
- Conduct air monitoring, samples, and confined space entry oversight, and other tasks as required
- Equipment & Site Audits
- Conduct scheduled and unannounced equipment inspections to verify that all machinery — including backhoes, excavators, and skid steers — are maintained in safe, operable conditions
- Perform walk-through site audits to assess compliance with project plans, environmental controls, and permit conditions, document findings with photos and written reports
- Review inspection records and flag overdue maintenance, deficiencies, or out-of-service equipment to the supervisor
- Assist in preparing equipment and site audit summaries for client reporting and regulatory submittals
Equipment and Site Audits
- Conduct scheduled and unannounced equipment inspections to verify that all machinery — including backhoes, excavators, and skid steers — are maintained in safe, operable conditions

Heavy Equipment Operation
- Be able to safely operate backhoes, excavators, skid steers, and other heavy equipment
- Perform pre-operation inspections on all heavy equipment
- Follow all equipment safety protocols including spotters, exclusion zones, and ground disturbance requirements
- Coordinate equipment staging, movement, and storage on active remediation and excavation sites
- Serve as a mentor to new and recently promoted equipment operators
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 5 years of field experience in environmental remediation, construction, or a closely related industry.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to operate company vehicles and trailers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in completing field documentation and digital reporting tools
- Demonstrated experience operating backhoes, excavators, and skid steers; valid operator credentials or certifications preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification (29 CFR 1910.120) with current 8-hour annual refresher
- Experience with air monitoring equipment (PID, LEL/O₂ meters, dust monitors)
- Familiarity with environmental sampling procedures and chain-of-custody documentation
- Experience with equipment inspections and safety related documentation
Physical Requirements
This position involves frequent outdoor work in variable weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and dusty or muddy environments. The successful candidate must be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods on uneven terrain
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- Wear full PPE for extended shifts, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toed boots, respirator, and chemical-resistant gloves as required
- Work at heights and in confined spaces (with appropriate training and oversight)
Work Environment
The Field Safety & QC Technician primarily works outdoors on environmental remediation and excavation sites. Travel to project sites is required and may include extended or overnight stays. Schedule may include early morning starts, extended hours, and occasional weekend work depending on project needs.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
