Flexible Scheduling: Full time providers must maintain 36 patient facing hours per week which is defined as time in clinic (templated hours), time spent rounding, time spent reading studies, and time spent performing procedures/surgeries. Outside of that there is schedule flexibility. Most of our providers choose to work 4 longer days and 1 shorter day or 4 longer days and have one day off during the week. As long as the hours add up at the end of the week, there is autonomy in the construct of their schedule. If volumes support, there would be no concerns with splitting the week up with 3 or 4 full days of procedures with 1-2 days of clinic while APPs keep the clinic volume moving. Volumes would have to support this though.
Staff Support : The clinic is currently staffed with a practice manager, an office coordinator, an MA, a front desk receptionist, a PRN nurse practitioner, and we have approval to add a full time APP once a physician is hired. Additional leader support includes a specialties operations director (me), a specialties medical director who is a surgeon, regional operations director, medical group president who is a surgeon, the hospital president and a market president- all of which are local. We have a regionally based credentialing team that handles all aspects of this. Billing and coding are also regionally based but very accessible and supportive. Hospital privileges and procedure scheduling teams are local (at the hospital across the parking lot). The hospital OR and endoscopy teams are very experienced and the departments have not required any traveler staff support in over the last 7 years. All of our scopes are new and Fujinon brand. EPIC is our inpatient and outpatient EMR system with Provation used in the endoscopy center.
Additional Gastroenterologist (GI) position details:
- EPIC electronic medical record for both IP and OP
- Endoscopy charting tool used in the surgical center is Provation
- We use Fuji brand scopes
- 2 Procedure Rooms
- Based out of Hospital, the clinic is on the same campus
- Ability to create own schedule
- On call 7 days per month, anything over would be determined together by the Gastroenterology team.
