Description: Jubilee House is a ministry of Grace Episcopal Church; the primary location for the work of this position will occur at Jubilee House. This is a grant-funded position; when grant funds cease to be available, employment will end or be reduced regardless of performance. This part-time position is scheduled based on those shifts not otherwise adequately covered by volunteers and those shifts in need of a supervising staff person; therefore, this position requires schedule flexibility. The responsibilities include (but are not limited to): overseeing the day-to-day operations of Jubilee House while on duty, assisting volunteers with their duties, serving as a knowledgeable resource for volunteers, connecting guests with other community partners, performing administrative tasks relevant to Jubilee House operations, processing material (non-monetary) donations, restocking shelves, household cleaning duties, implementing policies and procedures, processing and enforcing guest suspensions and discipline, maintaining a secure environment, and directly assisting the guests of Jubilee House. Other duties may include: shopping for supplies at local retailers and online, attending meetings with agency partners, and training/orienting new volunteers. Attendance at volunteer/staff meetings, outside of the operating hours of Jubilee House, is also expected.
Time Commitment: 20-27 hours per week. Shifts are generally 4.5 hours in length (9:30am-2pm or 1:30pm-6pm) with the possibility of working two shifts on a single day. Quarterly volunteer meetings last approximately 1-2 hour(s) and are usually scheduled on a Saturday morning. A weekly meeting with colleagues and supervisors is scheduled concurrently with a shift.
Term/Contract: This is neither temporary nor seasonal employment. This is not a contracted position. This position exists as long as grant funding is available.
Compensation: Hourly wage is set at $20.60/hr. Eligibility for health insurance, and other benefits, at the employee’s own expense, may be available (details provided elsewhere). One week of annual paid vacation time becomes available upon hire and must be taken within each employment year (no carryover or buyout). Sick Time accrues per the Michigan Earned Sick Time Act. Paid holidays are based on hours usually scheduled on that day of the week; the holiday list is as set by the Rector of Grace Episcopal Church.
Required: English-language proficiency, ability to navigate stairs both up and down, ability to perform light (household) cleaning duties, and access to reliable transportation.
Preferred/Beneficial Skills/Experience: Training in trauma-informed care, de-escalation training, training in mental health care, crisis management experience, customer service experience, childcare or teaching experience, training in Social Work, security and/or law enforcement experience, experience working with those experiencing homelessness (especially in Northern Michigan), and facility with data entry and excel spreadsheets.
