Paxton Media Group is seeking a full-time general assignment reporter for The La Porte County Herald-Dispatch. This reporter will cover Michigan City government, community news and events, crime and courts, breaking news and other assigned stories.Prospective candidates should have excellent writing and interviewing skills, some newswriting experience, and good people skills. Photography experience is a definite plus.The position will report to the managing editor and must have basic knowledge of word processing systems, digital photography, and social media.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experienceAt least one year experience in journalism preferredFamiliarity with social media and digital photographyFlexibility to multi-task and work on several stories simultaneouslyAbility to consistently meet deadlinesA knowledge of Michigan City and La Porte County, its government and schools is helpfulThis job requires some evening and weekend shifts; a vehicle with up-to-date insurance; and a clean driving record.Benefits include paid vacation; health, dental and vision insurance; and 401K plan with employer match.Paxton Media is an equal opportunity employer.
