Job Type: Hourly, Non-exempt Pay: $20/hour Schedule: Mon & Tues, 8am-5pm; Wed-Fri, 8am-2pm (occasional evenings/weekends for events) Location: Onsite at Queermunity Start Date: Late August 2026 Reports to: Hilary Otey, Co-Founder and Director
About Us
Queermunity is a vibrant LGBTQ+ and BIPOC-centered space in Minneapolis offering coworking, a café, inclusive public events, and community-rooted programming. We build belonging, joy, and economic justice through connection, collaboration, and care.
The Role
We're looking for a storyteller. The Communications/Marketing Coordinator is Queermunity's voice across email, newsletters, and social media, and leads outreach and marketing for our events. You'll find and share the member stories, program outcomes, and community moments that bring our mission to life, while making sure every inquiry gets a warm response and every newsletter lands on time.
This role blends hospitality, writing, content strategy, and outreach. You'll work closely with our Director and Operations and Design Coordinator, and share front desk coverage and event-day logistics with the rest of the team.
What You'll Do
- Front desk & space readiness: Welcome coworking members and event guests, keep the space clean and reservation-ready, cover the front desk when volunteers aren't scheduled.
- Inbox management: Own our general inbox, respond to inquiries within 24 hours (revenue-generating) to 3 business days (everything else), keep it organized and triaged.
- Newsletter: Coordinate our weekly email, told through real stories, not just event listings. Keep our Mailchimp database current.
- Social media: Build a monthly content calendar with the Director, write and schedule posts, lead 6-8 Reels a month, track engagement, and adapt voice across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
- Event outreach: Lead promotion for Queermunity-led and collaborative events, coordinate with partners on graphics and timelines, and represent us at outreach/tabling events.
- Event day-of support: Help with setup, breakdown, and greeting guests alongside the team.
- Team collaboration: Attend weekly Operations and SMC meetings, share updates, and coordinate closely with the Design Coordinator.
What You Bring
- 2+ years in communications, marketing, PR, community outreach, or customer service.
- Strong writing and editing skills, and a knack for finding and telling a good story.
- Real experience managing content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn (Meta Business Suite a plus).
- Experience with email/newsletter platforms like Mailchimp.
- A track record in outreach, partnership coordination, or event promotion.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfort with Google Workspace and picking up new tools fast.
- A warm, welcoming presence, equally at home greeting someone at the front desk and managing behind-the-scenes communications.
- Experience working alongside volunteers, interns, or part-time staff.
- A genuine commitment to our values: Honesty & Transparency, Collaboration, Inclusion & Safety, and Regeneration, and a passion for equity and community building in LGBTQ+ and BIPOC spaces.
Good to Know
This role blends desk work with physical tasks, resetting spaces, lifting up to 25 lbs, posting signage, and helping with event setup/cleanup. Occasional evenings and weekends are needed around special events. This is a new position with a 60-day probationary period, with check-ins at 30 and 60 days.
Benefits
PTO eligibility, professional development, an inclusive workplace, and the chance to make a lasting impact in the LGBTQ+ community. Full details in our handbook.
