Position Overview:
InSequence is seeking a TS/SCI-cleared Systems Engineer with 12+ years of experience to support an Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) and targeting web development project in St. Louis, MO. This role contributes to mission-critical operational capabilities by providing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Continuous Compliance Automation (CCA), and system reliability for web-based imagery exploitation systems across DoD/NGA environments.
You will design, implement, and maintain automation that provisions and configures infrastructure across multiple networks, drive Chef-based automation and compliance workflows, support AWS-hosted environments, and ensure adherence to stringent security and accreditation requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure as Code & Continuous Compliance
- Design and implement IaC solutions for provisioning and configuration across multiple environments.
- Develop and maintain Chef cookbooks, policyfiles, and InSpec compliance tests to enforce security baselines and operational standards.
- Automate compliance checks and remediation workflows to meet DoD/NGA security requirements.
- Integrate compliance automation into CI/CD pipelines for continuous delivery and accreditation readiness.
Systems Engineering & Operational Support
- Provide technical direction for development, integration, and testing of complex hardware/software systems.
- Analyze user requirements and system architecture to support design and implementation activities.
- Support sustainment of Java-based web applications (preferred: Apache/Tomcat).
- Monitor and manage infrastructure for high availability and performance.
Scripting & Tooling
- Develop PowerShell modules and automation scripts for deployment and compliance tasks.
- Create wrapper scripts for silent enterprise installs using PowerShell and batch scripting.
AWS Infrastructure Support
- Utilize and maintain AWS S3 storage and EC2 virtual machines in support of mission systems.
- Support cloud-hosted components while integrating with closed/controlled network environments where applicable.
Security & Compliance
- Perform Linux and Windows Server maintenance and apply DISA STIG settings as required.
- Ensure practices align with applicable DoD/NGA security requirements and operational constraints.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or Industrial Design (or equivalent relevant experience, if allowed by contract).
- 12+ years of professional experience in a systems engineering / infrastructure engineering role.
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+).
- Experience with Windows Server 2012/2016/2019/2022 administration.
- Experience with Progress Chef (Infra Server, cookbooks, policyfiles, InSpec) and automation using Ruby.
- Strong scripting skills with PowerShell (modules, automation, deployment tooling).
- AWS experience (EC2, S3; plus design/integration/troubleshooting/documentation).
- Strong communication skills; ability to collaborate with customers, peers, and government stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).

Salary Range:
- The final salary can be influenced by a variety of factors, such as Federal Government contract labor categories and wage rates, relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, educational background, and certifications.
