Digital Literacy Specialist at Dolton Public Library

Position Overview

The Digital Literacy Specialist will support patrons at Dolton Public Library by addressing various computer and technology-related inquiries, such as email setup, password management, and online form completion. This role focuses on empowering library users by providing hands-on assistance and educational support to enhance their digital skills and confidence. Candidates should possess excellent customer service abilities, strong communication skills, and a positive attitude, with a professional approach to interacting with the public.

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in basic software, email systems, and internet usage
Experience with completing online forms
Understanding of secure internet practices

Key Responsibilities

Assist patrons in accessing, completing, and submitting various online forms related to financial aid, government services, and social resources based on referrals from librarians
Support patrons in formatting resumes and applying for jobs online
Help patrons navigate online systems for healthcare, social services, and government assistance as directed by librarians
Provide guidance to older adults on online activities, including social media, personal devices, and email usage
Educate patrons about digital systems and practices to build their digital literacy
Offer advice and resources to encourage the development of online skills
Share tips and best practices to demonstrate the convenience and benefits of digital tools
Provide information on connectivity and device support
Assist with collecting patron feedback and evaluating program effectiveness
Update educational materials as required
Operate various computer equipment, including desktops and laptops
Maintain program records and statistics
Refer patrons to reference librarians for additional assistance and external resources

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience or coursework in computer technology, software applications, troubleshooting, multimedia, internet research, teaching, or training
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective customer service and collaboration with staff
Ability to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic, service-focused environment
Proven time management skills and the ability to handle tasks independently
Experience working with adults and seniors
Previous experience as a tutor or instructor is a plus

Compensation

Rate: $20 per hour
Hours: Tuesday and Thursday 11am - 4pm. Alternating Friday and Saturday from 11a - 4pm.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $20.00 per hour
