The Intervale Conservation Nursery (ICN) is a program of the Intervale Center that produces native trees and shrubs for restoration purposes across the state. ICN works closely with a broad range of partners to offer conservation plant material, professional planting and stewardship services, and statewide seed collection efforts.
Summary of Position:
The ICN Sales Coordinator supports the Intervale Conservation Nursery’s tree and shrub sales through customer communication, order processing and fulfillment, outreach, and retail sales coordination. This position helps create a smooth and welcoming experience for customers and conservation partners while supporting ongoing improvements to the ICN’s sales systems, fulfillment workflows, online store, marketing and outreach efforts, and customer engagement strategies. This position reports to the Nursery Manager.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Maintains positive relationships with retail customers and other conservation partners and responds to inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Processes retail sales through website, email, phone, and in-person communication
- Generates quotes, sales confirmations, and coordinates billing with the Nursery Manager
- Helps the Manager work with customers to assess site conditions and provide plant recommendations
- Communicates plant availability and seasonal product updates with customers and conservation partners
- Coordinates customer pickup scheduling, communication, signage, directions, and flow, and meets customers to hand off plant material and process payments as needed
- Supports the Operations Manager with order fulfillment and setting orders out for pickup
- Performs deliveries as needed
- Works closely with the Nursery Manager and Operations Manager to troubleshoot order issues, substitutions, and other customer concerns
- Coordinates with Nursery Manager and Operations Manager regarding inventory availability
- Assists Nursery Manager and Operations Manager with maintaining accurate retail inventory across Shopify and Cin7 Core
- Tracks customer feedback and recommends improvements to customer experience
- Helps maintain customer contact database
- Supports the development of social media content, marketing materials, and seasonal sales campaigns and coordinates promotional outreach and sales strategies to move inventory
- Updates and improves website functionality, including content, product listings, availability, and user interface
- Leads ICN open nursery days, weekend sales, community outreach events, workshops, and tabling opportunities
- Develops and improves standard operating procedures for sales workflows
- Works with ICN team to execute nursery operations, participating in all aspects of greenhouse and field production, including but not limited to seed and cutting collecting, propagating, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, harvest, and off-site planting and stewardship services
- Works some early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Works outside in inclement weather conditions
- Acts as an ambassador for the Intervale Center and builds relationships in support of the organization
- Attend Intervale Center staff meetings, events, and other activities as relevant.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 2 years of experience in customer service, partnership development, and sales
- Demonstrated experience with inventory systems, online databases, website management
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines at once
- Knowledge of or comfort learning and working within inventory, retail, and order management systems such as Shopify and Cin7 Core
- Interest in or knowledge of Vermont native tree species and natural communities
- Experience working on a small to medium-scale farm operation, watershed group, non-profit, or food systems organization a plus
- Desire and demonstrated ability to effectively work with a diverse range of people to accomplish a shared goal
- Strong problem-solving skills, situational awareness, and ability to make decisions in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Effective time management
- Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to represent the Intervale Center to the public
- Ability to lift 35+ lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive work vehicles for deliveries and site visits
