Full Job Description

Hybrid work schedule after introductory period

A NYS law firm is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Billing Specialist to join their Syracuse office. This role is responsible for reviewing and responding to client appeals related to electronically submitted law firm invoices. The ideal candidate will work closely with attorneys, billers, and legal support staff to resolve billing issues, submit appeals, and ensure timely payment of invoices.

Responsibilities:

Review and track invoice deductions using firm reporting tools and e-billing platforms.
Research and gather details regarding invoice reductions and appeal opportunities.
Communicate deduction information to attorneys and timekeepers in a clear, standardized format.
Prepare and submit appeals based on attorney feedback and supporting documentation.
Monitor appeal status and ensure all client deadlines are met.
Process approved appeals, reduced invoice payments, and related write-offs.
Respond to attorney inquiries and provide reports and supporting documentation as needed.
Verify billing accuracy and supporting records.
Assist with additional accounting and billing-related projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience with law firm electronic billing and appeals processes required
Knowledge of e-billing platforms and billing guidelines; experience with Bill Blast preferred
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, particularly with numerical data
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong customer service mindset and ability to work collaboratively across departments
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Aderant or similar legal billing software preferred
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
