We are looking for a dependable, energetic, and experienced Prep Cook / Batch Cook to help prepare daily meals and snacks for students from infancy through fifth grade at one of Miami Beach’s premier Jewish private schools.
This position requires more than basic food preparation. The right candidate should already have practical cooking experience and be comfortable preparing large quantities of food for approximately 300 or more children and staff.
Our kitchen prepares nearly everything from scratch, including breads, soups, sauces, baked goods, vegetables, proteins, grains, beans, and snacks.
The ideal candidate knows how to follow recipes, cook consistently in large batches, stay organized, and work efficiently as part of a busy kitchen team.
Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients for daily meal and snack production
- Wash, peel, chop, slice, and prepare fruits and vegetables
- Cook rice, beans, pasta, grains, soups, vegetables, sauces, and other basic menu items
- Prepare food in large batches for approximately 300 or more people
- Follow recipes and adjust quantities according to production needs
- Measure ingredients accurately and maintain consistent results
- Assist with preparing proteins, side dishes, baked goods, breads, and snacks
- Monitor cooking times, temperatures, texture, and seasoning
- Portion meals according to school guidelines
- Prepare gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and other allergy-friendly items as directed
- Prevent cross-contact and follow all food-allergy procedures
- Label, date, rotate, and properly store food
- Assist with receiving deliveries, stocking inventory, and organizing ingredients
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work area
- Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and kosher kitchen procedures
- Support the Lead Sous Chef and kitchen management with daily production
- Help ensure all food is prepared correctly and ready on schedule
- Assist with general kitchen cleaning and organization as needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience working as a prep cook, line cook, batch cook, kitchen assistant, or in a similar food-service position
- Basic cooking skills are required
- Must know how to properly prepare items such as rice, beans, pasta, grains, soups, vegetables, and sauces
- Experience with batch cooking, institutional cooking, catering, school food service, or high-volume production strongly preferred
- Experience preparing food for 300 or more people is strongly preferred
- Ability to follow recipes and large-batch production instructions
- Understanding of basic food-safety and sanitation procedures
- Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality or cleanliness
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Dependable, punctual, and able to follow direction
- Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
- Comfortable receiving feedback and learning new recipes and procedures
- Experience with healthy, kosher, Jewish, Israeli, Mediterranean, or allergy-friendly cooking is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to bend, reach, carry, and move safely throughout the kitchen
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment
Employment Requirements
- Must pass a Level 2 background check
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be comfortable working in a Jewish private-school environment

Schedule
Monday through Friday.
No nights. No weekends.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
