Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
Position Overview:
NTS Environmental Science and Engineering is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to support operations at a new industrial wastewater treatment facility in St. Louis County. This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with wastewater collection systems, ponds, reverse osmosis treatment, and land application under the supervision and mentorship of a licensed NTS operator. The role is well-suited for candidates who are early in their operator career and looking to develop technical competency toward licensure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine operation, monitoring, and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment and systems under the direction of a licensed operator.
- Collect samples and conduct process control testing; record and report results accurately.
- Conduct regular inspections of plant equipment, identifying and reporting operational concerns or maintenance needs.
- Operate and monitor treatment processes including collection systems, facultative ponds, reverse osmosis, and land application.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, daily records, and regulatory reporting data.
- Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance of pumps, blowers, instrumentation, and related mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Support compliance with permit conditions, MPCA regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Respond to plant alarms and after-hours emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.
- Coordinate with project managers and regulatory contacts as directed.
- Pursue required training hours and coursework in support of obtaining or advancing wastewater operator licensure.
- Operate mobile equipment including water trucks, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, or a related field preferred.
- Minnesota Class C Wastewater Operator and Type V Spray Irrigation license, or eligibility to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire.
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes, water chemistry, or environmental regulations preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, working outdoors in variable weather, and operating in confined space environments with appropriate training.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; reliable and self-motivated.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours operational needs.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies, clients, and colleagues.
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
