General Purpose: The Estimator is responsible for preparing estimates from contract documents for new construction, additions, and renovation projects ranging from 100k to upwards of 100M.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize workload by gathering information and requirements, schedules and manages their workload by setting priorities to meet deadlines for budgets and bids.
- Review construction documents to identify the scope of work and risk associated with the project.
- Perform quantity take-offs for any scope of work assigned by VP of Estimating.
- Prepare estimates for assigned scopes of work, including calculation of cost for self-perform work and solicitation and analysis of proposals from qualified subcontractors and suppliers.
- Make bid recommendations to VP of Estimating based upon self-perform costs, subcontractor and supplier quote analysis, and project risk factors.
- Work as a member of a bid team to prepare estimates, clearly communicating among teammates and identifying possible overlaps between scopes of work.
- Perform analysis of the accuracy of estimates based on actual costs at the end of the project.
- Uphold quality service by following organization standards.
- Maintain continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing Estimating needs.
- Prepare for and attend jobsite and progress meetings, ensuring readiness to communicate important updates.
- Travel to and from job sites and the other offices as needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and owners.
Education and/or Experience: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (B.A) from a four-year college or university or; two (2) to three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. A high school diploma or GED is required.
Language Skills: This position requires the ability to read, analyze and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, terms and conditions or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: This position requires the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: This position requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete-variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
