Duties
- Prepare patients for sleep studies by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.
- Conduct overnight polysomnography (sleep studies) to record brain activity, eye movements, muscle activity, heart rate, respiratory effort, airflow, oxygen levels, and limb movements.
- Monitor vital signs and physiological data throughout the study to ensure accurate data collection.
- Analyze sleep data using specialized software and prepare detailed reports for physicians.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues with sleep monitoring equipment and ensure proper calibration.
- Educate patients on sleep hygiene practices and post-study instructions to promote ongoing health.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Registered Sleep Technologist (RPSGT) credential.
- Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and physiology related to sleep disorders.
- Experience working in a sleep center or similar healthcare environment is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to sleep medicine.
- Familiarity with diagnostic evaluation methods used in sleep medicine.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
