Position Overview
We are looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Authorization/Benefits Specialist who takes pride in getting things right the first time. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring our Patients have a clear understanding of their financial responsibility and that our clinical team can move forward with confidence, knowing authorizations are in place and accurate. What You’ll Do Insurance Verification & Benefits
- Verify Patient insurance coverage and eligibility prior to scheduled services
- Calculate and communicate accurate Patient cost estimates, ensuring Patients feel informed and prepared
- Interpret plan details with confidence, including deductibles (individual and family), coinsurance and copay structures, out-of-pocket maximums, and in-network vs. out-of-network benefits
Prior Authorizations
- Submit prior authorization requests to insurance carriers in a timely and thorough manner
- Gather and organize required clinical documentation to support authorization requests
- Proactively follow up with insurance companies on pending authorizations
- Track authorization status and ensure all approvals are secured before scheduled services
- Communicate authorization outcomes — approvals, denials, and requirements — clearly to clinical and administrative team members
- Appeal denied authorizations with well-supported documentation when appropriate
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all authorization activity in the system
Team Collaboration & Patient Communication
- Communicate with Patients in a clear and compassionate manner regarding their financial responsibility
- Partner closely with our front desk, billing, and clinical teams to ensure information is accurate and flowing efficiently
- Document benefit and authorization details thoroughly to support seamless team handoffs
Your Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in medical insurance verification, billing, authorizations, or revenue cycle
- Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance plans (PPO, HMO, EPO), coordination of benefits, and benefit structures and terminology
- Experience using eligibility tools such as Availity or similar platforms
- Familiarity with major payers including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and Cigna
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
- Strong communication skills — written and verbal
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple tasks without losing momentum
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive prior authorization experience across multiple specialties
- Working knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding basics
- Background in a specialty practice or high-volume setting

- Remote within the Charlotte Metro Area with monthly in-person meetings required
- Schedule aligns with practice operational hours to support the clinical and administrative team
