Neurologist / Neurosurgeon / PM&R Physician – VA Disability Evaluations

Pay: $1,300.00 - $1,400.00 per day
Job Type: Part-Time | Contract
Location: Watertown, New York
Setting: Examinations are performed at a designated VA evaluation clinic. No private office is required.

Help Serve Those Who Served

Frontera Search is seeking Board Certified Physicians specializing in Neurology, Neurological Surgery (Neurosurgery), or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R/Physiatry) to perform disability evaluations for U.S. Veterans. This is an examination-only position designed for physicians seeking a flexible, predictable schedule while making a meaningful impact.

This is not a traditional clinical role. There is no treatment, prescribing, procedures, surgery, or ongoing patient care. Your responsibility is to conduct objective disability evaluations, document your findings, and complete standardized VA disability reports that support Veterans' disability claims.

The examiner does not determine disability ratings or benefits. All disability determinations are made by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Position Details

Part-Time Contract
Approximately 3 weekdays per week
Examinations performed at a designated VA evaluation clinic in Watertown, NY
No private office or clinic ownership required
In-person evaluations with occasional telehealth opportunities, as needed
Predictable daytime schedule
Electronic documentation completed through a secure web-based system
Start date based upon credentialing completion

What You'll Do

Perform one-time disability evaluations for U.S. Veterans
Review medical records, service records, prior examinations, and supporting documentation before each evaluation
Conduct comprehensive neurological or musculoskeletal examinations based on the Veteran's claimed conditions
Complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and Medical Opinions (MOs) electronically during each examination
Explain the examination process and review claimed conditions with each Veteran
Administer and interpret the MOCA assessment when appropriate
Complete and submit examination reports within 24–48 hours
Follow all VA disability examination guidelines and documentation requirements

QualificationsRequired

MD or DO with an active medical license in at least one U.S. state
Board Certified in Neurology, Neurological Surgery (Neurosurgery), or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R/Physiatry), or completion of a two-year residency in one of these specialties
Ability to perform in-person examinations at the designated clinic in Watertown, NY
Strong computer proficiency, including EMR documentation
Excellent communication, critical thinking, and time management skills
Commitment to providing compassionate, professional care to Veterans

Psychiatrists may also be considered if they meet the required board certification or residency criteria and receive Medical Director approval.

Preferred

Previous VA Disability Evaluation or Compensation & Pension (C&P) examination experience
Prior clinical practice experience within your specialty
Experience completing detailed medical documentation and medical opinions
Comfortable conducting occasional telehealth evaluations when requested
