Production Machinist
Alliance Wheel Services (AWS) is a reconditioner and assembler of freight car railroad wheelsets located in Washington, IL. AWS is seeking Production Machinists to join our highly skilled and experienced workforce who share our commitment to Quality and will follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. This is a physical, steadily-paced position that involves continual pushing, pulling, lifting, lowering and sliding products that typically weigh 50 - 130 lbs. The ideal candidate will be willing to work 2nd shift, if needed, and work overtime and weekends during our peak season or as needed from time to time to meet production requirements. We are accepting applications for several positions at our Washington, IL facility.
Hourly Pay Rate:
Starting pay rate ($18-$22) based on years of experience. Negotiable for individuals who are considered to be we qualified production machinists with several years of experience.
Essential Functions:
- Understand & comply with the quality program of the Association of American Railroads and AWS
- Communicate well with department supervisors
- Willingness to be cross-trained for other departments
- Physically capable of squatting, stooping, twisting and turning while transferring product from pallet to machine or machine to pallet
- Work safely with production equipment (knowing how to read a micrometer is a plus)
- Pay close attention to detail to identify maintenance, product or operations issues
- Able to work well with hands to take sensitive measurements using sophisticated devices
- Work well with other team members
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
Qualifications Required Of This Position:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Basic math skills
- Basic computer skills
- Candidates must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
