Guide Dogs of the Desert is seeking a hands-on Facilities Manager who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and making a meaningful difference every day.

Our campus is home to guide dog training, student instruction, dedicated employees, volunteers, and of course, our amazing dogs. The Facilities Manager plays a critical role in keeping our buildings, grounds, vehicles, and infrastructure safe, functional, and welcoming.

What You'll Do

As Facilities Manager, you'll oversee the maintenance, safety, and operation of our campus by:

Providing responsive customer service to employees, volunteers, and visitors by addressing facility-related concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Performing general building maintenance and repairs
Coordinating plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and other repairs
Managing preventive maintenance schedules
Maintaining our fleet of vehicles
Provide basic on-site technology support, including troubleshooting routine hardware issues, rebooting devices, assisting staff with office technology, and coordinating with the organization's third-party IT provider for issue resolution.
Coordinating and overseeing outside contractors and vendors
Maintaining campus grounds and exterior spaces
Ensuring compliance with safety, fire, and building regulations
Purchasing maintenance supplies and equipment
Managing facility-related purchases and helping maintain departmental expenditures within budget.
Responding to facility emergencies and urgent repair needs
Supporting campus events and operational projects
Working collaboratively with department leaders to prioritize facility needs
Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

Enjoys hands-on work and solving practical problems
Has experience in building maintenance or facilities management
Is comfortable troubleshooting basic computer, printer, network, and office technology issues
Can work independently with minimal supervision
Is organized and able to prioritize multiple projects
Builds positive relationships with vendors and coworkers
Takes pride in keeping facilities clean, safe, and operating efficiently
Communicates professionally and respectfully

Qualifications

Five or more years of maintenance or facilities experience preferred
Experience in one or more trades, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or general maintenance
Valid California driver's license with a good driving record
Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within six months)

Schedule

This is a full-time position that generally works weekdays. Flexibility is required to respond to facility emergencies, coordinate contractor work, support campus events, and perform occasional work outside normal business hours when operational needs require.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position that requires regular physical activity in support of campus operations and maintenance. The successful candidate should expect to:

Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach while performing maintenance and repair work.
Safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Perform work in mechanical spaces, on ladders, and in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Operate hand and power tools, maintenance equipment, and organization vehicles in a safe manner.
Perform repetitive manual tasks requiring dexterity, coordination, and the ability to work with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, landscaping, and general maintenance systems.
Work in varying weather conditions and around cleaning products, maintenance chemicals, dust, noise, and other conditions commonly associated with facilities maintenance.
This position requires the safe operation of maintenance equipment, power tools, organization vehicles, ladders, and related equipment.
