General Overview

A confidential Ultra High Net Worth Family is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Senior Aquarist / Marine & Koi Systems

Specialist to oversee the care, maintenance, and long-term health of an advanced private aquatic collection. This full-time role is

responsible for multiple freshwater and saltwater aquatic systems, koi pond systems, life-support equipment, dedicated sump

and filtration rooms, and related aquatic infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience managing complex saltwater aquariums, including FOWLR

systems, reef tanks, anemone systems, sensitive marine livestock, and koi ponds. This position requires a practical, observant,

detail-oriented professional who can work independently, maintain excellent water quality, troubleshoot quickly, and respond

appropriately to urgent system or livestock issues.

Relocation assistance may be available for an exceptional candidate. Candidates may be considered from anywhere in the

country, provided they have the right experience, professionalism, discretion, and long-term fit for the role.

Aquatic Systems

The property features multiple large freshwater and saltwater aquatic systems, including several display aquariums, a large koi

pond, dedicated sump and filtration rooms, and advanced life-support equipment. Responsibilities include maintaining pumps,

filtration, water quality, lighting, dosing systems, controllers, and all related aquatic equipment.

Key Responsibilities

 Oversee and maintain all freshwater and saltwater aquatic systems, koi pond systems, sump rooms, and life-support

equipment.

 Monitor, test, and maintain water quality, including salinity, temperature, pH, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrates,

phosphates, ammonia, and other relevant parameters.

 Maintain healthy environments for fish, corals, anemones, invertebrates, seahorses, koi, and other aquatic livestock.

 Perform routine aquarium and pond cleaning, water changes, filter maintenance, algae control, and system inspections.

 Manage RO/DI systems, saltwater mixing, dosing systems, automatic monitoring systems, pumps, skimmers, UV, lighting,

heaters/chillers, plumbing, controllers, and filtration components.

 Observe livestock behavior and appearance daily to identify signs of stress, disease, aggression, nutritional issues, or

environmental imbalance.

 Maintain proper quarantine, acclimation, treatment, and biosecurity procedures.

 Feed livestock according to established protocols and adjust feeding based on health, behavior, and system conditions.

 Keep sump rooms, equipment areas, storage areas, and workspaces clean, organized, and safe.

 Troubleshoot equipment failures, water-quality problems, leaks, livestock health concerns, and emergency system issues.

 Coordinate with vendors, outside specialists, aquarium contractors, veterinarians, suppliers, estate management, and the

principal when needed.

 Order and track food, additives, salt, chemicals, test kits, equipment, and other supplies through the appropriate household

or estate channels.

 Maintain accurate records of water testing, livestock health, feeding, maintenance, equipment issues, treatments, and

system changes.

 Assist with planning and implementing upgrades, repairs, livestock additions, and system improvements.

 Remain available for urgent or emergency calls involving system performance, livestock health, water quality, leaks, or

equipment failure.

Required Experience

 Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience managing saltwater aquariums, preferably including large-scale or high-end

private, public, commercial, or institutional systems.

 Proven experience with FOWLR systems, reef tanks, anemone systems, corals, marine fish, invertebrates, and advanced

filtration/life-support systems.

 Experience with koi ponds, pond filtration, seasonal pond care, water quality, koi health, and outdoor aquatic systems.

 Strong understanding of marine water chemistry, biological filtration, nutrient control, disease prevention, quarantine, and

system stability.

 Experience maintaining sump rooms, RO/DI systems, pumps, skimmers, plumbing, lighting, dosing systems, controllers, and

automatic monitoring/control equipment.

 Ability to identify changes in livestock behavior, coloration, appetite, breathing, stress, aggression, or signs of illness.

 Strong troubleshooting ability and calm decision-making during urgent situations.

 Ability to work independently while coordinating respectfully with estate management, household staff, vendors, and the

employer.

Preferred Qualifications

 Degree or coursework in marine biology, zoology, aquaculture, animal science, environmental science, or a related field;

significant practical experience with similar systems may be prioritized.

 Experience maintaining very large private, public aquarium, zoo, research, or commercial aquatic systems.

 Experience with seahorse systems, delicate marine species, anemones, corals, and other sensitive livestock.

 Experience with aquatic animal health protocols, quarantine systems, medications, and treatment planning.

 Experience sourcing, transporting, acclimating, and introducing marine livestock.

 Experience with sharks or other specialty marine species is a plus.

 Safely handle aquarium tools, hoses, pumps, salt, water containers, chemicals, food, and maintenance equipment.

Schedule

This is a full-time salaried position. The typical schedule is expected to be Monday through Friday during regular daytime hours,

with flexibility required for occasional weekends, special projects, livestock needs, vendor work, system issues, or emergencies.

Availability for urgent calls is required, as the aquatic systems and livestock may require timely response outside normal working

hours.

Compensation and Relocation

 Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000 annually, dependent on experience.
