Full Job Description

Bankruptcy Consultant (Non-Attorney Role)

Location: On-site
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Sales and Marketing Manager

Position Overview

The primary function of the Bankruptcy Consultant is to convert potential clients into retained clients by conducting the initial bankruptcy consultation, gathering relevant debt and financial information, helping the prospect understand their options, and closing them as a paying client. Success in this role is measured by retains, conversion rate, and adherence to payment-plan targets. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, a strong client-service and sales mindset, and a solid working knowledge of bankruptcy law (Chapters 7, 13, and 128) sufficient to qualify and guide clients through the initial stages of the process.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct consultations with potential clients to assess their needs and explain the firm's bankruptcy services.
Actively listen to understand each client's situation and effectively communicate the benefits of retaining the firm.
Develop payment plans that encourage clients to pay-to-file within 90 days.
Discuss the firm's credit-repair partnerships and explain the benefits of post-bankruptcy credit rebuilding.
Schedule onboarding meetings for newly retained clients.
Process initial payments after retention and follow up promptly on any failed payments.
Verify and maintain accurate client records in the firm's CRM.
Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all firm policies and applicable privacy laws.
Coordinate closely with other Bankruptcy Consultants and the Intake, Onboarding, and Client Services teams; collaborate with attorneys, case managers, and administrative staff to ensure a seamless client experience.
Represent the firm professionally in all client interactions, demonstrating empathy, patience, and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications

Strong sales and client-retention abilities.
Team collaboration skills.
Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up skills.
Client-focused, team-oriented, self-motivated, and committed to ethical and professional standards.

Key Competencies 

Empathy & Communication: Ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients in simple terms while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
Detail-Oriented: Documents client interactions in CRM notes and keeps data current per firm standards.
Problem-Solving: Anticipates potential issues and proactively finds solutions.
Team Collaboration: Works effectively with other teams to coordinate the client experience in the early stages of a case, consulting attorneys when necessary.

Job Expectations  

Work closely with the team to meet goals set by management.
Respond to all questions from team members.
Attend department meetings and actively contribute.
Answer live phone calls from clients — do not let calls go to voicemail.
Return all client messages within 24 hours.
Maintain professional, effective communication with clients.

Goals

Retains: 17–20 per week (calculated when payment posts)
Conversion Rate: 60% (client retained during consult and payment collected)
Payment Plans: Pay-to-file within 90 days
Call AHT: 22 minutes average
