Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Fund Accountant to join our accounting team. In this role you will manage the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of single-family residential properties, ensure financial accuracy across the general ledger, and play a key role in monthly close process. You will work closely with the Accounting Manager and cross-functional teams including property management, operations, and finance. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant looking to deepen their expertise in real estate and property management accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Manage full-cycle property accounting for single-family portfolios, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
Perform monthly general ledger close activities including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting packages for investors and management
Calculate and process monthly property management fees in accordance with management agreements
Perform monthly waterfall payment accounting
Administer the tenant chargeback process, including documentation, billing, and collections coordination
Close turn and renovation jobs in Yardi Job Cost Module and reconcile job budgets to actual spend
Manage bad debt accounting including write-offs, allowance for doubtful accounts, and coordination with collections
Administer vendor records, approve invoices for payment, and maintain accurate 1099 documentation
Reconcile corporate credit card statements and upload coded expenses to the general ledger
Manage property tax obligations and recurring business license renewals
Manage accounting for property purchases and sales
Support annual lender and fund audits
Support annual fund tax return preparation with external tax advisors
Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
3+ years of accounting experience
Solid understanding of GAAP
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines simultaneously
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Yardi, including P2P and Job Cost modules
Experience with property management or real estate accounting
Exposure to accounting workflow automation, workflow tools, and process improvement initiatives
