Overview
A boutique family office is seeking an Investment Research Analyst to support its work across public equities, options, macro markets, and data-driven investment strategies.
This is a research-intensive role for someone who wants to understand how investment decisions are actually made. You will work alongside senior investment professionals, investigate potential opportunities, assess risk and expected return, and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of live portfolio positions.
We welcome applications from recent graduates, early-career professionals, graduate students, and candidates transitioning from other analytical fields. Previous hedge fund or Wall Street experience is valuable, but it is not required.
We are primarily looking for people who are intelligent, curious, highly motivated, and genuinely interested in markets.
Responsibilities
Your work may include:
- Researching companies, industries, and emerging investment themes.
- Analyzing financial statements, earnings reports, valuation assumptions, and operating performance.
- Developing and testing equity and macro investment theses.
- Evaluating options strategies, volatility, market positioning, catalysts, and downside risk.
- Monitoring developments across equities, interest rates, currencies, commodities, and credit markets.
- Using conventional and alternative data to identify changes that may not yet be reflected in market prices.
- Building financial models, scenario analyses, and probability-weighted forecasts.
- Preparing concise investment memos and presentations for internal review.
- Supporting portfolio monitoring, risk analysis, and post-trade evaluation.
- Identifying where an investment thesis may be wrong and updating the analysis as new information emerges.
Analysts are expected to communicate clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and develop an independent point of view. Strong work may lead to greater responsibility for idea generation, position monitoring, and investment recommendations.
Who Should Apply
This opportunity may be a strong fit for candidates with backgrounds in:
- Finance, economics, accounting, or business.
- Mathematics, statistics, physics, or engineering.
- Computer science, data science, or quantitative research.
- Consulting, corporate strategy, entrepreneurship, or other analytically rigorous work.
You may be a recent graduate, an early-career analyst, a trader, a former founder, or someone who has developed substantial market knowledge independently.
Formal experience matters less than your ability to demonstrate that you can:
- Build and defend a logical investment thesis.
- Understand how markets price expectations, uncertainty, and risk.
- Interpret financial statements and market data.
- Distinguish meaningful information from market noise.
- Explain an investment idea concisely in writing.
- Think in scenarios rather than relying on a single forecast.
- Accept feedback and revise your conclusions when the evidence changes.
- Work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
Personal trading, investment competitions, independent research, financial models, published analysis, and serious self-study may all be relevant evidence of ability.
Qualifications That Are Helpful
The following are viewed favorably but are not mandatory:
- Experience in investment research, trading, asset management, hedge funds, private equity, equity research, corporate finance, consulting, or data-intensive roles.
- Strong Excel, financial modeling, Python, statistical analysis, or research skills.
- Familiarity with equities, options, futures, volatility, or macroeconomic analysis.
- Progress toward a relevant finance credential or training program, including CFA Level I or above, Certified Futures and Options Analyst (CFOA), CAIA, or comparable programs.
- Completion of TrendUp Now L3 + the TrendUp Specialization and Recruitment Program (SRP), which may allow for an accelerated review.
Candidates do not need to meet every preferred qualification to apply.
What You Will Gain
This is a small-team investment environment where high-performing analysts can earn meaningful responsibility quickly.

Analysts receive direct feedback from senior investment professionals and have the opportunity to strengthen the research, communication, and judgment skills required for a long-term career in investing.
