CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist (Lathe, Mill & 5-Axis)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes, milling machines, and 5-axis machining centers in a precision manufacturing environment. This position requires someone who can work independently, troubleshoot machining issues, and maintain high-quality production standards.
Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes, CNC mills, and 5-axis machining centers.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, CAD models, and engineering specifications.
- Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs using G-code and/or CAM software.
- Perform complete machine setups including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and work holding.
- Select proper tooling, feeds, and speeds for various materials and applications.
- Perform first article inspections and maintain tight tolerances throughout production.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and programming issues to minimize downtime.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments and quality control equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturing efficiency and quality.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of CNC programming and setup experience.
- Strong experience with CNC lathes, vertical mills, and 5-axis machining centers.
- Experience programming and setting up complex 5-axis milling operations.
- Ability to program using G-code and CAM software such as Mastercam or similar.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T requirements.
- Experience with precision inspection tools including micrometers, calipers, and indicators.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Haas, Mazak, Fanuc, Siemens, or similar CNC controls.
- Prototype and production machining experience.
- Experience machining aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, and exotic materials.
- Knowledge of fixture design and process improvement.
