We are seeking an experienced Structural Construction Estimator to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in structural estimating who enjoys working alongside construction professionals to bring projects from concept to completion.
As a key member of our team, you will provide estimating and preconstruction support for our Construction Managers on a variety of structural projects, including new residential construction, remodels, additions, repairs, and renovations. Your ability to accurately interpret plans, prepare estimates, coordinate pricing, and support the field team will play a vital role in delivering successful projects.
While this position offers remote work flexibility, applicants must reside in the Sarasota/Bradenton area to attend project sites, team meetings, and collaborate with field personnel as needed.
Job Overview:
The Structural Construction Estimator is responsible for developing accurate project estimates, coordinating subcontractor and supplier pricing, reviewing construction documents, and supporting the preconstruction process from initial budgeting through project handoff. This position works closely with Construction Managers to ensure projects are thoroughly scoped, competitively priced, and ready for successful execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Construction Managers to prepare detailed estimates for new construction, remodels, additions, structural repairs, and renovation projects.
- Review architectural and structural plans, specifications, and supporting documents to develop accurate material and labor estimates.
- Perform quantity take-offs and prepare detailed cost analyses.
- Solicit, evaluate, and organize subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure competitive and complete project estimates.
- Assist in preparing bids, proposals, budgets, and scope of work documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, vendors, municipalities, and project stakeholders throughout the estimating and preconstruction process.
- Assist with permitting documentation and other preconstruction requirements as needed.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bid documents, vendor pricing, and project correspondence.
- Support Construction Managers by answering pricing questions, preparing estimate revisions, and providing ongoing estimating assistance throughout the life of the project.
- Monitor project costs and assist with value engineering opportunities when appropriate.
- Ensure estimates align with company standards, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural construction estimating, project coordination, or a related construction role.
- Experience estimating residential new construction, remodels, additions, or structural repair projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and structural building practices.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering plans.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace; experience with QuickBooks, Buildertrend, or estimating software is a plus.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with field personnel and office staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Florida building departments and permitting agencies.
- Knowledge of local building codes and permitting requirements.
- Experience in residential general contracting or structural construction.
- Familiarity with project management and estimating software.
