Full Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer

REPORTS TO: President & CEO

STATUS: Full-time, regular

LOCATION: Based in Washington, DC, with oversight of multiple locations in DMV

Summary: Serves as a senior executive reporting to the President & CEO with management responsibilities over multiple areas, including, but not limited to, overall smooth operations of the organization and its six facilities, strategic planning, support the senior leadership team, project management, facilities, IT, legal affairs/contracts, food service and maintenance. The person in this role develops strategies and internal process controls to ensure the proper management and oversight of expenditures, mitigate risk, and promote the efficient use of resources, timely project completion and quality product delivery that exceeds donor and board expectations.

Responsibilities:

20% Leadership

· Strategic planning

· Day-to-day oversight of operations

· Legal affairs and contracts

· Large project management and growth initiatives

· Direct administrative oversight of NOVA facility/program

· Support the senior leadership team, as needed

· Serve as a backup to the CEO

60% Operations

· Inspections and regulatory matters

· Management and maintenance of IT, phones, copiers, Mission Tracker and other systems

· Ensure the fleet of vehicles is maintained, inspected, registered, etc.

· Safety, security and fire systems and procedures

· Risk management

· Identification and prioritization of capital improvements, in partnership with the VP of Finance and Administration

· Regular evaluation of the value provided and cost of service providers

· Review for accuracy and approval of relevant invoices

· Ensure vendors provide adequate services to all Mission locations

· Ensure mail is picked up and dropped off at post office (task performed by others)

· Oversee day-to-day administrative functions

20% Facilities and Food Service

· Supervise Maintenance Director and Operations Manager

· Ensure all facilities are clean, in good working order and preventive maintenance plans are developed and executed

· Ensure repairs are tracked and completed

· Executive detailed oversight of MEP contractors, ensuring work orders are tracked, completed and invoices are reviewed and paid

· Ensure repairs are planned and implemented with minimal disruption to operations.

· Ensure kitchen operations are professional, safe and efficient; oversee Food Service Manager

Other duties, as assigned

Requirements:

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or related discipline

· Minimum of ten years in an operations leadership role

· Senior nonprofit leadership experience

· Excellent attention to detail

· Excellent strategic planning skills

· Excellent staff management skills

· Ability to multi-task

· Thorough understanding of all subject matter areas detailed in this job description

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

· Strong Microsoft Suite skills

Agreement with and commitment to Central Union Mission’s mission and Statement of Faith required. Committed Christian and currently active in a local Christian church required.

About Central Union Mission:

Central Union Mission, Washington, DC's oldest private social service agency and a faith-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit, offers a comprehensive array of services to men, women and children in need from DC, Virginia and Maryland. Beyond offering over 60,000 bed-nights annually at its emergency shelter, the Mission’s shelter provides a full suite of transformational programs. Our Comprehensive Family Resource Center provides food and clothing to approximately 5,000 individuals monthly, as well as transformative wrap-around services. Our Mission: NOVA center in south Arlington provides critically needed social services, as well as food and clothing. All three facilities use a co-located service model providing onsite job training/placement, education, help with addictions, ESL classes, parenting classes, healthcare, assistance to veterans and senior citizens, legal aid, assistance with housing, spiritual discipleship and more. Additionally, the Mission operates a camp for underprivileged children and a 24-bed transition home. Our reputation is reflected in our four-star rating from Charity Navigator, Platinum Seal for financial transparency from Candid, and Top-Rated award from GreatNonProfits.

Pay: From $150,000.00 per year
