Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our vibrant educational community. In this role, you will support lead teachers in creating a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment for children across early childhood and preschool age groups. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help foster a love of learning, promote developmental growth, and ensure each child's unique needs are met. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on young learners’ lives while gaining valuable classroom experience.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the welfare of the children enrolled in the Preschool
Know and support all school policies
Share in the housekeeping as well as the teaching needs of the classroom
Assist in providing a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use both in learning activities and in imaginative play
Assist in preparing and participate in activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips
Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills
Enforce rules for behavior using positive discipline for maintaining order
Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
Assist the head teacher in preparing for meetings with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs
Attend one on one home visits with the Head Teacher prior to each child’s first day of school
Welcome arriving children to the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest to them
Help to arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety
Provide a Christian atmosphere for the child’s learning experience
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
Attend monthly staff meetings, Parent Night, and Open House.
Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of preschool programs
Follow the school calendar prepared by the Director
Assist in accomplishing the stated mission of the Preschool
Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director and/or Head Teacher

Experience

Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships-Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time.
Communicating-Provide/receive information to/from supervisors, co-workers, and congregation members by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person on an ongoing/as needed basis.
Making Decisions and Solving Problems-Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Active Listening-Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and manage interruptions.
Critical Thinking-Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Computer Skills – Knowledgeable in applicable computer applications (Microsoft Office, Publisher).
Diplomacy and Confidentiality – Ability to demonstrate tact in dealing with sensitive matters or people. Able to handle shared information in a confidential manner.
Project Management – Ability to lead a group of people in accomplishing a specific task.
Personal Accountability – Hold oneself to the highest standards of behavior in all situations. Take responsibility for your own actions.
Time Management – Ensure that time on the job is utilized in an efficient and productive manner.
Assisting and Caring for Others – Provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as co-workers, children and parents.
Social Perceptiveness– Be aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
Monitoring Performance– Monitor/Assess performance of yourself or other individuals that report directly to you making improvements or take corrective action

Education/Training/Experience

Some College Courses required
First Aid/CPR
Good physical health verified by health screening, including TB test performed by physician and proof of immunizations (Influenza, Pertussis, Measles)
Criminal record clearance
Working towards 12 units as outlined by the State of California in TITLE 12 DIVISION 12, composed of:
Early Childhood Education
Early Childhood Curriculum
Early Childhood Growth and Development
Child, Family, and Community
Preferably a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
