Staff Accountant

Aligned CPA & Associates is growing, and we are hiring a full time team member in this role. This is not a back office seat at a big firm. You will work directly with the owner as the number two person in the practice, touching nearly every client we serve and helping shape how the firm runs as we scale.

Aligned CPA & Associates is a growing accounting firm based in McFarland, Wisconsin, serving small businesses and individuals across Wisconsin and beyond. We provide tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and fractional CFO services, and we pride ourselves on being true advisors to our clients rather than once a year tax preparers. We believe kindness and genuine care for people are the foundation of great client service, and we run the firm that way.

About the Role

You will own the monthly bookkeeping and payroll for a portfolio of small business clients and be the person clients trust. You will have helped document and improve our internal processes, and you will have a clear path toward a senior/manager role as the firm grows. We are not just filling a seat. We are looking for someone who wants to eventually become a manager, a leader, and an integral part of this organization. What You Will Do

Own a portfolio of monthly bookkeeping clients in QuickBooks Online, including reconciliations, adjusting entries, and clean month end financials.

Process client payroll, including onboarding new payroll clients.

Communicate directly with clients by email and phone, answering questions with warmth and clarity.

Assemble monthly financial packages and supporting schedules for our advisory and fractional CFO clients.

Help build internal checklists and procedures so the firm gets more organized as it grows.

Tax preparation is not required for this role. However, if you have tax prep experience and would like to earn additional income during tax season, preparing returns is available as an optional add on, with review and mentorship from the owners.

What We Are Looking For

Required:

Experience in Bookkeeping, accounting, or tax preparation.

Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online, including bank reconciliations and journal entries.

Comfort working independently and managing multiple client deadlines without close supervision.

Clear, professional, and friendly written communication.

Genuine interest in growing into a manager and leadership role as the firm expands.

Preferred (nice to have):

returns, especially in Drake Tax or similar professional software.

Experience at a small public accounting or bookkeeping firm.

with Gusto or a similar platform.

An EA credential, CPA license, or active progress toward either.

An associate or bachelor degree in accounting, or equivalent experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary of $60,000 per year, with growth tied directly to the growth of the firm.
