Automotive (Diesel) Instructor

Wenatchee WA

Wenatchee Valley College is seeking part-time faculty to join its professional technical faculty, teaching automotive with a focus on diesel technology. The successful candidate will teach a combination of in-person and online classes.

Automotive diesel technology is an important discipline in WVC’s need to provide a balanced array of offerings in professional technical education and in supporting workforce and career pathway programs which prepare students for employment in diesel service, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, transportation, and related automotive fields, as well as further study in automotive technology.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare, modify, and deliver course content, including syllabi, assignments, presentations, learning activities, and assessments, in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
Provide appropriately challenging instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for educational activities, evaluation of students’ work, and consultations with students to help them realize their full potential as learners.
Teach assigned courses in accordance with college expectations, approved curriculum, and quarterly schedules.
Use inclusive, student-centered teaching practices that support a diverse community college student population.
Assess student learning using appropriate methods and provide timely feedback to students.
Maintain accurate student records and submit grades by established deadlines.
Use WVC-supported instructional technology, including Canvas or other learning management systems, as appropriate.
Communicate regularly with students and maintain availability for student consultation.
Refer students to appropriate college support services when needed.
Work cooperatively within the department and college community and attend monthly department chair meetings.
Foster a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias, and demonstrate a respect for the dignity of everyone.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate degree or higher in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or a closely related field.
A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience working in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, automotive service, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated experience in heavy-duty diesel systems (e.g., Class 6–8 trucks, agricultural equipment, or heavy equipment), including engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, diagnostics, and repair.
Familiarity with diesel emissions and aftertreatment systems (e.g., DEF, DPF, SCR).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in an educational environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional education or advanced training in Automotive or Diesel Technology.
Industry certifications (e.g., ASE certifications, particularly in diesel or medium/heavy truck areas).
Experience utilizing a Learning Management System, such as Canvas.
Successful experience teaching, especially at the college level.

We are looking for enthusiastic instructors who set high expectations but are eager to help students meet those expectations.

Interviews may include a teaching demonstration on a topic selected by the interview committee.

Pay

The pay for classes depends on the number of credits and instructional mode (lab, lecture or a combination).

In general, each lecture credit is one hour a week and paid at $121.90 per hour. For example, if the class was five credits, it would meet five hours per week and be paid at 55 hours for the quarter and the salary would be approximately $6704.
Each lab credit is two hours and paid at $60.95 per hour. Therefore, if the class was a three-credit lab, it would meet six hours per week a be paid at 66 hours for the quarter and the pay would be approximately $4022.
